Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. More details and home remedies available at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

Probably a sinus infection. It's kind of gross, but the throat hurts because the discharge from the sinuses drips down the throat and makes it sore. It might go away on it's own, but she's had it a pretty long time and she really should see a doctor. It's probably too severe for any home remedies to help very much.

I had strep tonsilitis couple weeks ago and the infection was behind my tonsils and so bad that antibiotics would't fully work. Doctor had to stick a needle into the tonsil and withdraw a test tube full of puss. I remained on the antibiotics and it cleared in a couple days.

im a doctor, look she obviously seems to have an upper respiratory infection. these infections tend to spread downwards, i.e. nose-throat-lungs. yes it could be tonsillitis or phatyngitis. u obviously dont want to go to a doctor ( or u wouldnt have asked here!) . so my advice is if she has a fever DEFINITELY go to a doctor. if not, u can wait a couple of days and manage by warm fluids, and symptomatic drugs like panadol sinus ( n.b. check if her age is compatible with these drugs!)

It might be strep through or a throught infection. I would take her to your family doctor and they can treat het with antibotics.
