Whatever happens does so without your knowledge. If you're never exposed to something you can't 'do' anything with it, and you'd know nothing to teach, which is the stage of unconscious incompetence, you know nothing and don't know you know nothing. After exposure, you become consciously incompetent. At that point, you have some familiarity, but you're aware of your lack in skill. Then, by practice and/or talent, you become consciously competent, in which case you can do well if you're focused. Finally, one tries to reach a level of mastery in which one can performs without having to think. Now, it is in the 3rd stage that the teachers will emerge, because its in their minds to be discussed, while those who possess mastery will find it more difficult to describe the nuances of their abilities. Thus, they 'do' what they can, and those who can't are generally able to tell you what they can.

I have seen too many awesome teachers to put any merit into this saying. It takes someone special to spend hours each day teaching a room full of children and to really teach them, not just babysit them.
