Does it ever seem all most Atheist want to do is annoy religious people and violently attack them? That's how I think Atheism was born, think about it like this: if you KNEW there was nothing beyond death, why would you want to share/ force that on somebody and try to make them second guess themselves? Not all religious people are nuts you know, some are calm and rational , so why attack them with arguments and debates? Maybe they attacked you first, but an eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind and if you say that, then you just proved my argument of Atheism being bred out of hatred towards religion and nothing else. How many Atheists have you seen that go "I really don't care what you think, it's not important and I'm not changing. You believe what you want if it makes you happy." Now to remind you that I asked a question ^_^ . Where do you think Atheism comes from?

Yes and no. Lack of belief in any gods is not a response to religion. However, the label "atheist" wouldn't be around if there weren't so many theists.

And, no, I don't want to annoy religious people or violently attack them. I do want religious people to think about their religious superstitions. And I don't understand your sentence, "...some are calm and rational , so why attack them with arguments and debates". If they are calm and rational, they wouldn't mind reasoned arguments and debates. If you think that a rational argument is an attack, perhaps you are not one of those "calm and rational" theists, and I have met many calm and rational theists who love a good religious discussion about differences in beliefs.

Also, atheists tend to not be "an eye for an eye". That's a Christian concept (Exodus 21:23-27, to be specific). A recent study in Minnesota, in fact, showed atheists to be both the least tolerated religious sector and one of the most tolerant.

Atheism is simply the absence of theism. It's just a term for those who don't believe in any god. Atheists have always existed. Atheism doesn't come from hate, but from being skeptic.

Far from all atheists attack religious people or enjoy annoying them. Most atheists are the "live and let live" type. You just don't notice those as much because they are not in your face.

A lot of atheists look at the bad things that are happening in the world because of certain religions or in the name of God and those bad things that stem from blind faith is what makes some atheists wish that people would ask more questions, think more and do more research rather than just believe what they are told to believe and go about causing trouble in the world over religion.

I don't see what's so bad about debates. If debate threatens someone's beliefs then those beliefs are hardly strong or true in the first place. If someone has strong beliefs and has something to base them on then debate will only make their faith stronger.

I'm not into "an eye for an eye", but self-defense is understandable. Most American Catholics seem to believe that atheists are the lowest of the low, that they are evil, immoral and unhuman and undeserving of any rights. Is it really hard to understand that atheists would not feel bad about ruining those beliefs? Most atheists just want people to do no harm to others (live and let live) and to think with that thing between their ears, to not believe everything they are told without looking really well into it first.

You have provided an example by your question itself.
So, as your argument goes if a theist attacks an atheist, the atheist should practise the principle that the theist loves mouthing. It is not meant for practice by the theist.
Wow a born logician and a philosopher ! Thats what you are.

You say Love and then hit me and I'm supposed to kiss your a**.

Thank you sonny. you have exhibited the true colors of a theist.

atheism comes from that much vaunted "free will" your God is always throwing around. Stop attacking atheists for expressing freedom of speech and free will. And, wasn't an eye for an eye first used in a holy book? Maybe its more true religion was born to control people. But hey. You can't win em all.

I personally studied religion for 25 years, I read and read everything I could find. Nothing convinced me of the existance of a supreme being. I have attended services at over 20 different denominations and religions, i have talked to preachers and rabbis, i have gone to synagogs, churchs, temples, alters and an open air program or two. No where did I find proof. No amount of preaching and talking convinced me. So I dont believe.

My reaction is they obviously do not comprehend the meanings of words. I even ought to confess that i do not fairly comprehend why it is so substantial to them to call atheism a "faith" -- do you? per chance it is because they imagine that *each and anyone* has to have a faith of a few variety? they could be able to't conceive of someone without faith? I do exactly not get it. A-theism: lack of conception in a god or gods. no longer some thing more desirable. Peace.

LOL

How stupid can you get!

Yes atheism is a response to religion - just as you would respond if I said fairies were real and lived in your garden, you'd be an afairiest.

Do you understand that there would be no such thing as an atheist if there werent so many ignorant people following ancient mythologies?

If you truly are interested, and not just getting a little jab in at atheists in a cheap manner, here's a youtube video called "Why do Atheists Care about religion?" It' about five minutes long and very informative.

"I care because other people's religions have restricted our freedoms."

Atheism is a possible intellectual and existential stance in response to human experience. I don't think it's a reaction to theism per se. As for atheists' alleged argumentativeness, I don't see that it's any worse than the thousands of theistic sects which all bicker and quarrel (or worse) and try to convert people. At least atheists tend to be rational, if a little narrow-minded.

It comes from a reasoning mind. Or some lucky people might have been born with it and didn't have interfering parents.
