Everyone is taught from pre school that the book is all you need to know. Most teachers only teach what is in the book with a little bit extra info but, there really isnt any discussion any more. Everything is just a lecture that gives the students word for word note taking and thats where it ends. I can't blame just the teachers though because children today only care what everyone else thinks about them. They are afraid of saying the wrong thing and sounding stupid. Little do they know that by saying the wrong thing may spark up a great discussion for the classroom. I am currently in college and I can count on one hadn on how many teachers would tell us--"Think deeper than that" or "Don't think about the obvious." Its a good point that you brought up.

People do not think outside the box because they don't know how to apply that line of thought. Its really easy to teach someone to a set level of learning, but then its the students responsibility to be able take all that knowledge and expand, or bring it together in ways that allow that person to think above that level of learning. I honestly believe that thinking outside the box techniques should be taught in school. Don't just teach the students facts, teach them also how to apply and expound on those facts.

to think outside the box is to say this...the person has high cognitive reasoning. I don't believe, we as a society, are putting out quality "thinkers". It's easy to have book-learning. But, application is another thing. Thinking outside the box goes beyond what has been learned. It is the idea that one can use all that was learned to achieve higher standards.

This is a sadly true statement. Most people learn only what they are told. An education only provides knowledge, what the person does are does not do with that knowledge is up to them.

there are a lot of students who are educated. they may excel in academics but there are other factors to be considered.
like, if a person hasn't developed their critical thinking, then it may be hard for them to 'think out of the box'... or another reason is if the person lacks imagination
