Its self confidence, my ex-husband was like that and I had to divorce him because of it. drop her, you will never know if she is ever telling the truth.

It is a mental disorder. There is a difference between a compulsive liar, and a habitual liar, though. A compulsive liar will lie about anything and EVERYTHING. They lie even when they don't need to. They lie so much, that they've gotten to a point where even they can't tell the lies from the truth. A lot of the time, they don't even REALIZE they're lying, anymore. It's a real mental disorder that can be helped with therapy, and sometimes medication.

It can be part of a disorder, but not a stand alone disorder. Meaning, you can have as part of a disorder, being a compulsive liar; such as a sociopath is usually a compulsive liar. Some people with Compulsive Disorders also may have compulsive lying as part of their problem. But many people have learned to lie and are just stuck doing it and don't known how to stop, but it's not part of a mental disorder, it's just a poor charactor trate.

Be careful about calling anyone a liar; make sure you know what they are saying IS A LIE. WHY DO I SAY THAT? Because my life is so different from most others I'm around, that I'd say 90% of the people around me are sure I'm making up what my life has been. To them, what I say just can't be real. I wish it wasn't!

So becareful about ever calling someone a liar. If your friend is a liar, you are best to tell her/him how you feel about it; that you believe they lie all the time. And in my OPINION, I'd not want someone as a friend who lies to me. Trust is just too important in a friendship.

There is actually a clinical diagnosis for people that lie all the time and don't realize that that is what they are doing...it's called pathological lying. These people actually believe the lies they tell, so they have no idea that they aren't telling the truth about anything. I don't know how they treat it, but I do know that it is a diagnosed problem.

I think it starts out as a habit and then becomes a disorder, meaning they can't help it after having done it for so long.
