I believe that a high percentage of people who are prejudice are reacting to actions done by some in particular groups.
For instance, I do not like the religion of Islam, not just because of what some of the terrorist are doing, I know that most Muslims are not terrorists but because of Islam's stance that Christ was just a man like their prophet whom I believe was a false prophet. Their idea is complete blaspheme and an insult to our Lord and Savior.
When it comes to racism I don't look at someone's skin color and decide I don't like them. Nor, do I automatically assume someone of Middle Eastern decent is automatically a terrorist.
I believe that it isn't just religion that causes rifts within mixed cultures it's the cultures themselves that causes rifts.
Then, in the same breath, there are those people out there that are so angry about life's circumstance (in general) that they need to find someone or something to vent that anger on so, they vent it on people who look different.
Just my thoughts on the subject.

Religions were formed on the name of God, basing on the emotions and sentiments of the people, to drive them to righteousness and harmony..Instead of leading people in different religious ways to reach good, they cropped-up differences. The religion-heads preached the followers that their religion is greater than the other. To prove the greatness of their religion first verbal clashes ensued between followers, leading to riots and murders. No religion preach assaults and assassinations. If any religion preach the above, it is not a religion at all.

It is because of what they believe or don't believe in and not necessarily about the person them self.
Galations 1:9-12 says, As we said before so say I now again If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received let them be accursed.
For do I now persuade men or God?or do I seek to please men?For if I yet pleased men I should not be the servant of Christ.
But I certify you, brethern, which the gospel that was preached of me is not after man.
For I neither received it of man neither was I taught it but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
which means all of this stuff that is of the Mormons,Jehovah Witness and Islam is of man and is of false teachings and by example that the muslims give us through terrorism proves that their religion is of man by man because man is deceitful and destructive..

A hypocrite is someone who claims to believe in something
he doesn't really believe in. And unfortunately, many are
hypocrites by proxy. Not intentionally, but because they
simply don't take the time to discover what they are supposed to believe.
Therefore , they lack conviction in their own beliefs, and feel
threatened by anything "new" they hear. But if they studied the faiths of others, they would see there are more similarities in our faiths than differences. And the differnces are usually man-made interpretations of spiritual truths.

Religious beliefs go to the core of who a person is. When someone disagrees or believes another way, it challenges a person's core beliefs. Plus everyone wants to be right and wants people to realize they are really smart. But the truth of the matter is this: one day "every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord." Amen!

simple according to me!
every person (my reference is to the one deeply devoted to thier own religion or race) feels very faithful towards his own religion. While he learns to respect his religion he forgets all the superstitions or malpractices in it and takes in everything in a positive and spiritual manner.Thats where one develops a superiority towards his race and considers it paramount. So it is understandable that they discourage other set of practices which are totally different from thiers!
the million dollor question is that when the religions themselves are made not to separate people but to inculcate human values in then and unite them under the universal GOD then why hate?

Self-cultivated ego perceiving self Superior to others. Its extreme is proclaiming one's religion is also superior to others. Such people even go to the height of illogicality and claim that their God is superior to others' God. This is extreme foolishness but who can argue with these people.

Well I think I know a fair bit about the religions I dislike. Any religion which is faith-based and out of reach of reason and rationality deserves to be mocked.
