Yes, it is true.
Semen is made from finest proteins in our body. When you have sex you loose proteins and you should compensate them. In young age you can do it, but depends upon your health and hunger. If you have good hunger you can digest proteins and compensate the loss. If you have poor hunger you can't compensate.
Semen is termed as fire of our body. More the semen storage more active and smart you will be (only thing is that the storage has limit); otherwise your face will be pale and movements dull. You can experience it. Now you will understand why Yogis and Saints look smart even in old age.

My job is helping people experience a healthy sexual relationship whether married or single. I believe sex was meant to be a way for us to see within ourselves and our partners like no other.
I guess your question depends on the situation. One if you are too young to handle the responsibility of having sex than yes abstinence is the best option. If your not going to have safe sex than forget it also, why take the chance at catching something that will possibly destroy your future sex life?
Now if you are a responsible adult avoiding sex will cause more frustrations and tension. Sex is a release of many hormones for humans. One our bodies were meant to have sex or why put those organs there??? It was meant to be an incredible experience or it wouldn't be so enjoyable. Sex has been proven to release tension and stress. For men having an orgasm actually relaxes them and aids them in sleeping better, yes ladies that is why men easily fall asleep at night after having a great orgasm. Sex also makes our hair, nails, and skin healthier. It's all about the hormones released in our bodies. It helps relieve tension headaches. People who have more sex also are sick less! For those that are depressed having sex relieves some of that pain also.
Now if you are speaking on terms of Tantric sex and holding off to build up sexual tension to have a great sexual experience well that is a whole different subject...There are lots of books on that as well. Have a great day! Good luck with what you choose to do, although a good night of sex will probably give you the real answer to your question :)

that's funny i asked a question about sex a little while ago.
I suspect u may have cheered quite a few up if it is!!
if u avoid what i would call fornication, i.e sex just for the sheer
sake of not having anything better to do or as a hobby then probably yes. If u have numerous partners u are thousands of times more likely to pick up a life changing or life destroying disease.
unless u r very careful. how many are tho??
I think it is considered healthy to have an active sex life
and i personally would agree with this. Mentally, physically and emotionally.

You don't increase your energy by not having sex, you just don't use some of it having sex. Your hormone levels regulate themselves so you shouldn't worry about hormones. It's natural to have sex, so really, if it wasn't healthier for the reasons you have suggested, we wouldn't have sex.

That sounds totally backwards. I have read many studies that have been conducted over the years that give at least a dozen health benefits to having a good sexual relationship. The pros far outweigh the cons, so it sounds like you are talking to people who either do not like sex or have some hangups about it and are trying to justify their feelings by coming up with false notions.
Just do an online search for something like 'benefits of sex' and you will come up with any number of things contrary to the idea of avoiding sex.

It is healthier, but not for the reason that you have suggested in your question.
Its best to avoid so that you don't get an STD. Sleeping with someone new is like playing russian roulette.

I cant see how it would decrease depression. I would have serious depression if I had to give it up :-)
(refering to consentual, legal, safe sex)
It's good exercise. It promotes spousal affection and increases happiness at home. It's pleasurable and it's tax free
you know what they say.... "good sex is great, but even bad sex is good".

Partially true. Having sex is important not only for our physical health but emotional health. Don't avoid sex too long.

It's healthier to avoid sex if someone would be irked that you're having it.
