I like to soak mine in a mixture of fajita seasoning and worsteshire sauce. Then place it in a pan with potatoes, carrots and onions. My family loves it. Cook it a min of 3-4 hrs on about 375 until its done.
I use fajita seasoning on most of my meats as a tenderizer and I love the flavor of worsteshire sauce so... I do steaks, roasts... etc

Marinate meat for several hours in something acid to tenderize -- wine, lemon juice, flavored or wine vinegar, and so on. I like a mix of red wine vinegar, teriyaki sauce, onion powder and garlic powder as a marinade.

Or use someting caustic -- baking soda.

Or combine the two by dissolving 1 teaspoon of baking soda in 1 cup of water, stabbing the roast all over with a fork to allow it to penetrate, and rolling the roast in the solution. Then marinate in red wine or red wine vinegar.

Slow cooking also will tenderize meat, especially when combined with the acid marinade.

Normally you can't tenderize a roast with anything you put on it, unless you marinate it for a long time. I like to bake roasts in a low heat oven for a long time, say 275 degrees for 4 hours or so. That makes them nice and tender.
