I try to do right, but I slip up and I always feel bad when I sin. What can I do to prevent myself from sinning?

That which I would do I do not and that that I would not do , I do.

You are not alone, we all struggle if we are his and strive to do his will and not our own. We all have our hidden and not so hidden sins we struggle with.

What I have found is that all those things people tell you about staying in the word and praying do help and are correct, but we should also try to be happy with what God has given us.

Look at what your sins are and ask yourself why you are doing them. I think most of the time it is because we want something more or different. It's really just selfishness or at least it has been for me.

I have as of late tried to be happy in what God had blessed me with and prayed for those that have been mean to me or held me back and most of all for those I disliked. I believe that the word of God is true, so I know that all things work to the good for those who are in Christ and called to his purpose.

Thats the long answer, the short answer is love the Lord with all your heart and treat your neighbor as you would yourself. Be happy that Jesus is in your life(is your Life) and that the Spirit is telling you when you sin and that you wish to do better. You are an amazing creation of God and he is not done with you yet.

By the way you will continue to get better at all this with time or with Christ return you will be cured. Paul (I think) said he was cheif among sinners and he was a wonderful man of God. I feel I can give him a run for his money at times but Jesus is changing me, molding me into what I will become in the end.

God Bless.

It sounds like you are a Christian and human. I am also and for many years and I get tempted and slip too but Jesus always forgives.
Reading the Bible, saying little prayers under your breath or singing His praises takes up space Satan would otherwise use to find a weakness.

Friend you first have to repent & then be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Chrust & then recieve the Baptism of the holy Ghost. & then don't think you won't stumble somewhere alone the way, You are a Little baby in the Lord trying to walk, I have been there many times, It is not how many times you get weak & fall, But how many times you get strong & get back up. I have walked with God for 37 yrs. & to this day, I am being tested

Make sure that your actions will not hurt anyone in any way. Always, keep everybody around you happy.

This easier said than done.. If you can achieve this you are an angel!

Ask God for forgiveness the fact that you are trying so much and repent when you are aware you are sinning is admirable.Remember God is all forgiving.

Accept YAHOSHUA in you the hope of glory, and let Him make the choices. As John "the baptist" said: "He must increase, I must decrease". He didn't say it would be easy. He said that in His power, it would be possible. Read Scripture, Trust the Savior.

Become an atheist. We can't (and therefore don't) sin. We know not to steal, lie, and kill people WITHOUT needing a book or a list or a celestial babysitter to watch us 24/7.
