It would be interesting to know how many come through the tunnel of fear as opposed to those coming through the gates of praise and thanks.

Belief in science can be considered a faith of sorts as we attribute a degree of belief in being able to rationalize and make sense of it.

Did you discover or come to religion in faith or in fear ?
What drives you or away from a belief, religion or faith ?

ADHOC (Queries posed in partial rhetorical way without implying personal bias.)

Yakus.. :: Do you believe in something out of fear, past experiences of persecution and pain, or do you seek a religion in the first instance out of love ? (without negative pressure)

Godle.. :: Do you not then believe in your evidence and have to believe in theories ? The theories may be absolutely wrong although your primal senses tell you the object exists.
Science is your higher God or calling. If one did not believe in science despite what it tells you, what good is all the evidence as did Galileo find out at his expense (The world is a globe and not flat; Theory before empirical evidence ?)

Puppy.. :: What is to say that failing should not be attributed to our lack of understanding ?
To presume otherwise may imply a higher knowledge, in which case, we do not require any belief system in support of another.

COMMENT
At the very least, full ascription to absolute authorities can be scrutinized within societies open and tolerant to a plethora of beliefs; Dogma , new or ancient, are no longer insurmountable behind veiled intent.

I am a wild spirit, yet governed by my curiosity. Fearless and faithless I walk through the thresholds to eat what I find, to assimilate and purge what I find useless. I seek to burn away boundaries, and therefore the realities fade... leaving much to be seen.

Yes, you can have faith in science, I'll admit that I have faith in medicine to work without knowing how it works. But it is not a religious faith, there is no belief that science is a higher power and requires my acceptance of it to live after death.

I was not "driven away from" faith, I just no longer accepted it when I realised it didn't sit well with me. That is, I couldn't just take everything on face value alone and the answers based on observation rather than ancient advice seemed much more reliable.

I was trying to explain this to my 10 yearold daughter yesterday. i na jokeing way I said, I'll put the the fear of God into you....you little..... Anyway she aske why we had to be afraid of God.... I quickly flashed back to my days of cathloic school getting my ears streched and nuckles crackd by a ruler. You know that little metal edge that comes out of a wooden ruler? Well as a first grader, for a reason I can no longer remember, I got the knuckel crack by Sister Burnadette.. God Rese ther Soul, she's probably burning in hell, she drew blood. I never told my parents and with 5 kids they never noticed... Anyway, I am getting way off track here. I explained to her that having fear in the lord is like having fear in sonthing you know can cause you harm if you misuse it or lack respect for it. I asked her If she would go swimming in the ocean alone at night, or if she woud go down cellar and play with my electric saws. Her answers were syrley no. Then I asked her if she would kill someone or steal from her friends. Her answers were the same. I said it is not so much being afraid og God or Jesus but being afraid of the concequences of not living our lifes in accordance with his laws. He only has Ten and any self respecting human could easily adhear to these rules. Faith has nothing to do with fear... Faith is actually our lack of fear. It is our hope, promise, and reward.... Now the only thing that could drive us, or me away from my faith, is temptation. I am just as much a sinner as the next man, but I pick myslf up, confess my sin when and if I am ready to not repeat it and return myself copleatly to my Lord. Temtation comes in many forms and has many names. From the devil and his minions to simple materialisim to those beautiful women in short skirts.... The last one is my biggest problem.. I don't touch, but I still look, He's the one that made them so beautiful so maybe He'll fogive me. lol I hope you find what it is your looking for. Good Luck and God Bless...

i came to Christianity from Sikhism through faith.

i only fear the wrath of god, but i know if I'm a good person i will never feel that wrath.

Sikhism could not answer certain things for me - i could not understand why Sikhs could not cut their hair - dress a certain way....
i found in TRUE Christianity - there are no rituals, no special dress, if i want to talk to god - that's all i do talk, no hail Marys before he hears my prayer.

it was these little things that i was drawn to.

And the fact that Jesus died on the cross so i may have the chance to redeem myself.

What drove me away from the belief in science/government is what I returned to - my belief in God is stronger than ever. I've watched too many loved ones lose their lives by choosing to become codependent on science and the government (secularism).

I was raised in the Catholic church and as a youngster was taught to fear God as in, "God will punish you", God won't love you". And then there was the whippings by nuns and priests. Like millions of other Catholics upon reaching maturity I abandoned the church and found God myself through meditation and prayer. I found out that the answers to everything one needs to know is to be found in the Soul. All one needs to do is be still and LISTEN and it will be revealed to you. Little by little by little, and with patience, you will learn as I have learned that God is pure unconditional love

your belief should always be based on what you know to be true, and you should have evidence of this. if you cannot trust what you hear about your belief then there is no need trying to agree with the issues, you will grow tired one day. make sure you have researched about something before jumping into it.

I came to religion through love and personal experience.

Love came first, then faith - not the other way round.

Fear? I don't do fear.

God bless.

U can bring the horse to the water, but u cannot make him drink. Fear can bring u to religion, but cannot make u embrace it.
Fanatism and hypocrisy drives me away from a religion

ok - your "accusations" against God: Jealousy: Your determine could be jealous of you a similar way the Bible describes God's jealousy in case you desperate which you needed your terrific pal to be a drug broking and supply you loose drugs for all time till you die and that they do in no way see you returned! So, no contest there! Anger: See above - your dad and mom could be very indignant too, yet indignant because of the fact of YOUR loss - some anger is particularly solid and not a sin - anger at incorrect is suitable! So, no contest there! homicide: the 1st individual born became a murderer - Cain murdered his brother in a position and God did no longer kill him, yet enable him stay. God is particularly, very affected person. He does deal in judgement although, yet, wager what - He created all and has that authority (we don't) - homicide is likewise performed with a definite reason which contain revenge and hatred and this does not observe to God in His judgements. God does see the foolishness of homicide and the motivations that are at the back of it alongside with the attack on His advent - it makes Him so unhappy and indignant for solid reason. homicide is all concerning the spiritually darkish reason of it - each and every thing is approximately reason in reality! i do no longer worship God out of worry in any respect! I worship God because of the fact he's all-understanding, all-clever and that i want somebody like that as a "pal" so i could have a much greater powerful perspective in existence. God is particularly forgiving. All we'd desire to do is comprehend who we are as His advent and that there is desire of all issues turning out to be new - no longer love it is now! So faith and love is opposite of delight and worry - i'm after the 1st 2! Our delight is what creates worry (and vice versa)! faith creates love (and vice versa)! faith is analogous to self belief and self belief is purely particularly recent in love besides as freedom. delight is approximately being protective and opposite of being humble - so we pass no the place with that and worry is the end result! - we grow to be afraid because of the fact we actually ARE going no the place w/o love (and desire). authentic, each and every thing approximately God can not be time-commemorated - yet like in Jesus' coaching and parables, He provides EXAMPLES with a view to understand somewhat of what he needs us to understand! My motivation IS the character it particularly is recent in God - no longer something!
