Yes, French wines are considered 'the best', however over the last few years, trends have shown that Australian wines have been taking over French wines in different parts of the world. Australia has an amazing climate suitable for grape growing, which has resulted in Australia producing the best wine in the world of late!

FRENCH wine is a brand, therefore you pay for a brand and not the quality of the wine. It is very possible to buy an Australian wine that is better than a French wine for half the price. Add to this the fact that the Japanese are one of the largest tourist visitor groups to Australia (after the English) and you have a recipe for Australian wine success in Japan.

I would say that is not true. More Japanese are introduced to French wines and not the reverse so the opposite is probably true. However, if the Japanese were equally introduced to both wines then the situation may change.
