Going on holiday in 3 weeks - 3 weeks ago I started eating very healthy and going to gym twice a week in the hope of losing 6 pounds by my holiday (aiming at 1 pound a week). Im eating lots of fruit and veg, eating good carbs (wholemeal bread etc) and getting in all my food groups and no junk, drinking plenty of water. been going to gym twice a week doing cardio and weights, trying to push it up to 3 times but work commitments mean i can't fit any more exercise in, alreadly walk 10 mins to and from work every day. I am the same weight altho i understand muscle weighs more but look the same and all my clothes fit the same. why arent I losing weight?!

Sometimes exercise and diet alone do not determine your weight. Some people's metabolism prevents them from losing much more weight, especially in only 3 weeks. Your body knows at what weight it works best at and it will work to stay at that weight. No matter how hard you may try, you may only lose the slightest amount of weight, dependent on your metabolism.
Don't be daunted however, keep the good diet and exercise, it will keep your body fit and working properly. Your body's metabolism may change later and you may start find yourself losing plenty of weight later, but for now, don't try anything stupid like binge and purge, it just makes your body want to gain more weight when you finally stop purging.

A few years ago, I went on a calorie restricted diet for almost 2 months and lost 2 pounds, which made me very sad.
Then, after doing some research I decided to go on a low carb/low gi diet and lost 4 pounds in under a month.
After I stopped dieting though, I put the weight back on,
and so, I realized that the only way to stay in a healthy weight, was to stick to a medium/low GI diet for good.
A few tips:
Try squeezing a lemon in a glass and add a bit of hot water, then drink it and dont eat anything for 30minutes, do that in the morning, and at night, lemon is a natural source of synephrine, that boosts your metabolism. They also say that apple cider vinegar helps, not in tablet form, that is useless, but if you drink a tablespoon, twice a day, but its really disgusting.
Also, have you checked your thyroid hormones?? It would be worth to have it checked out.
Are you sleeping well?? If you dont sleep at least 7 hours a day, you could be stressing your body, and its very hard to lose weight.
Finally, it would be worth it if you checked out your insulin levels, as you may be producing too much. Insulin, is the fat storage hormone.
10 min walk to work is not enough, try to walk a bit more, and make it a long term habbit, even after you finish dieting.

Be careful that's why people become anorexic , you cant possibly hope to see the change because you are looking for it .

look in the mirror and ask yourself if you look any older than last month ? the answer is no !

the saying is familiarity breeds contempt and it is true , you have been changing since you were born but have you ever looked in the mirror and thought oh my god whats happened ? no you haven't , when you see what you expect to see you overlook minor changes , you probably are increasing muscle and losing fat and so you will appear more athletic to others but you won't see it yourself until you have a six pack and biceps the size of rugby balls .

To be honest you haven't given yourself enough time...1st off in the beginning its not weight that we lose its water.....and I'm not being rude when I say this but 6lb's is nothing really!...your body may be happy at that weight in which case its going to take a little longer to lose...you seem to be doing the right thing so keep at it and good luck!
(god I wish i only had 61bs to lose!)
All the best x

its not just eating well, but portion size is a major major factor. you can eat well but too much and it is almost not worth it. I think it is something like 7 out of every 10 people eat 2 or 3 times what they should eat in a normal serving. so if you keep eating well and the right portions at the right times and still go to the gym i think the weight will come off. but, keep in mind, losing weight is not an instant thing. it takes time but eventually the weight gradually but surely falls off! just be patient and keep up the good work!

You are still eating more than your body needs to keep going. You will only lose weight when there is a deficit between calories eaten and calories used by the body. Cut down your portion sizes and you will lose;
Also try and step up the exercise. You dont have to go to the gym to exercise, you can doi it at home too;

You obviously think you are doing very well regarding weight loss. It appears your scale and or your figure do not agree with you.

All it means is that your regime needs a rethinking and readjusting as far as Diet & Exercise are concerned.

Remember that people ,whose profession depends upon their weight and figure, goes through enormous lengths to keep track of even 500 grams in their weight. It often leads them to tears.

So it is not as easy as you think unless you are well motivated and ready to do the necessary sacrifice.

Good Luck

You are eating too much. It's healthy, yeah, but it's still too much. Also, two times a week at the gym won't cut it. 30 minutes of excercise per day...try walking on your non-gym days for 30 min. not 10.

Try cutting out all the carbs. I've stopped eating bread (which I love), cut down to a tiny bit of pasta (sigh), and have lost 10lbs in 3 weeks.

It worked for me..!

I did the same thing, except it took longer than a few weeks before I noticed any difference for some reason. Rather than weighing yourself to judge your weightloss, try to see if you feel a difference in how well your clothes fit because as you said it could be the muscles weighing more.
