JJ S had it right as far as what we the police always called the thin blue line. It was a thin line of people (thin because it was stretched trying to cover a large area) who seperated the normal people from the chaos of criminals and evil-doers who would be intent on hurting them.
I know there are some people out there who hate cops, it is a sad fact of life. But, most cops are doing a pretty thankless job for not a whole lot of pay because we love the work.

the thin blue line mean? It means a law Enforcement officer make's a distinction on whether he will not press criminal charges on another government official "police , firefighter or EMT, due to his law breaking action. Even Police can cross the Thin blue line , by committing a crime.
