Our son feeds our granchild olives by the bowl full! I think that's crazy. We fed our babies bananas and baby food at that age. He says they do that in Greece and Italy...but I find that hard to believe. anyone no more about this?

My son loved black olives I just sliced them to be sure that he couldn't choke on them. The same went with grapes and any other small round foods.

Yes there is the issue of them being a major choking risk. In other cultures they probably do feed olives but how many? Since olives are pickled in a solution heavy on salt (brine) then I don't think that a bowl full would be a good idea as this would put a heavy strain on a one year olds kidneys. So there is the issue of salt overload apart from the choking risk. Too much salt is toxic.

Apart from the fact that they are a major choking risk there should be no harm. All my kids loved & ate olives from an early age. They are a fruit but at 1 year old should be made easier to eat to reduce the risk of choking.

All of my children loved olives from an early age. I would brake them into pieces though.

olives are fine as long as the seeds have been taken out. My daughters love them and eat them and would eat them by the bowl full if I let them. It just makes their poo's stink really bad.

Olives are not bad, a bit salty and they can make the baby more thirsty. Excess is never good though
