Alright..Before I ask let me first say Im not trying to insult ANYONE, I'm just curious. -- I was raised a christian, and my parents have always pounded it into my head that Im suppose to strongly dislike homosexuals. When I was young I didnt know any gay people so it wasnt a big deal. I didnt hate them, didnt really think about them. Now I'm 24 and even with years of being taught to "strongly dislike" them. I cannot. I have absolutely nothing against gay people....and my family thinks Im very wrong for this. My question is
--Why do alot of christians hate homosexuals? Even if you consider that life style a sin, why is that one sin any worse than any others? God said all sin is equally bad in his eyes (Im not saying whether I think it is or isnt a sin, Im saying even if you DO think its a sin) So why do some christians turn their back on the more acceptable sin but shun gay people for sinning? Im really just curious as to why some people see that as the "Ultimate" sin.

I have a huge problem with this because theyre just lusting after everything in a skirt, but if a gay person is in a loving relationship,THEY'RE the one sinning..im sorry..please explain this to me.

um .... "me" ....where did you hear that?? and once again you havent answered my question. Why do you consider that to be so bad, and why do you think God will punish Gay people for their sins anymore then he'd punsh a man for sleeping with a woman he isnt married to? it doesnt make sense.

First off, being Gay and a Christian are not mutually exclusive... I know many, many gay Christians.
Hate of any person goes against the God of my understanding and the Good News of Jesus.
Finally, if there be judging of people to do, leave that to God. A person who judges another person goes against the Good News of Jesus and if there be judging of that person, I will leave that to God.

I think it's hard to answer "why" questions because it often boils down to "because they do" or ignorance or tradition or history. All of those are involved in answering your question. If homosexuality is the ultimate sin, why did God create a genetic difference that appears to cause so men to be gay? (The geneticists have identified a difference in the make-up of straight and gay men). Hate is such a waste of energy. It changes nothing and the hate is also a sin. If you want to see disgusting hate, visit the website of the Westboro Baptist Church. These people think they're Christians? So, "why do people see it as the ultimate sin"--worst than murder, etc? Because they do not think for themselves and they are like sheep. They're ignorant. Not a very profound answer, but it's the only answer that makes sense to me. (not meant to reflect negatively on what others have said to this question)

I can only speak for myself. I do not hate gay people. I have gay friends that I love but I am not sure they are all practicing the gay lifestyle. I do not talk about that to them unless they ask me if it is a sin and then I tell them what the word of God says about it. I cannot and am not in any position to call this sin any worse than any other sin. God looks at the heart and judges it is not for men lest they be judged. Bless you

First, I'm sorry your Christian parents taught you to strongly dislike anyone. Jesus says we are to love our enemies, so I think that precludes despising those who are at theological odds with us. I have seen the selective bigotry you are describing all my life. Many people seem to believe that their sins are not as grievous as certain sins of others. What they fail to appreciate is that we are not judged based on our relative goodness compared to others, but on our absolute goodness compared to God. We miss that mark, so we need the unmerited grace that God offers to whosoever will come. Homosexuality is not the worst sin, but since it's not a temptation for the majority, it's easy to demonize it and thereby feel better for not being "one of those." If believers were as determined to love as they are to criticize, we'd have a much better impact on the world than we do now. Jesus has something to say about this attitude in Luke 18, verses 9-14.

That sin isn't any worse than any other. They are all a turning away from God which is what sin is. And Christians shouldn't be hating anyone for we are sinners too. Your friends who are "Christian" yet sleeping around, are not Christian. A Christian is someone who has made Jesus the Lord of their life.

So sad your family has the power to condemn a person to hell. Or, do they? NO ONE, but God has the power to say who is going to hell. In addition, your family has confused the part about hating the sin, love the person. There are christians who love the people and hate the sin, you just have to seek them out. Remember, that humans cannot be the judge of who enters the gates of heaven.

Todays christianity is really not much like that which Jesus taught...there are so many judgemental, fake, self righteous egotistical hating christians that it is hard to tell the difference a lot of times.
In the bible homosexuality is called an abomination, but if i remember rightly there are other things that are abominations. God hates sin..and Jesus died for sinners..now if we treat gay people bad..or any other non believer bad..how is that going to show them God's love?
I am not suggesting that we accept the sin as right..I am not suggesting people go to gay functions with your friends..I am saying that we are to love one another..accept the person as someone Jesus died for..show them christian love....show them Christ in you....
By the way, I do not see any scripture in the bible that tells us we are to shun these sinners..they have right up until their death or until Christ returns to discover God and desire to do what He wants and not follow their desires.
Sin is sin....all sin is bad....all sin brings death if it is not repented for. Don't let people tell you things that are not true or not in the bible..oh there is only one sin that is not forgiven..that is the unpardonable one ..that is worth remembering and finding in scripture....
Galatians 6:1 If someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should RESTORE him GENTLY. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.
God Bless.

Good question! FIrst things first. All sin is equal. A small lie is just as much sin as murder.
This includes homosexuality or, to be more precise, sodomy.
Second. Some Christians are hypocrites. They point the finger and play the blame game while they continue to sin themselves or to overlook other sin. The Bible clearly states that not all people who sound religious are godly.
Third. The Bible also states that "many are called but few are chosen" and talks about "the wide path to destruction and the narrow path to salvation."
What's this mean? Most people are going to hell. Now you will fail to hear most clergy mention this because it's tough to swallow and it hardly brings in the big tithes. Second, it's very difficult to stay on the narrow path.
Moral to the story: stay focused on yourself and focused on God's Word (read daily) and forget what others say about the Bible or about religion but be prepared to refute their Satanic rhetoric.

I speak only for myself as a christian. I don't hate homosexuals, what they do is there business. I don't think it's right for anybody to condem another person for the choices they make in life whether it be for or against God's word. Me personally, my sins are between me and God. I believe we all pretty much know by now what is pleasing and unpleasing to God. I am nowhere near perfect in my walk with God so as the bible says those that judge others, do they not do the same themselves. Not in those exact words, but you get the picture.

Interestingly, the abhorence for homosexuality comes from the Old Testament. There is no particular mention of it in the New Testament. If it is a sin, it is not particularly more sinful than any other act. Homosexuality is not even mentioned in the Ten Commandments, except as interpreted by religious folk who put it under the mantle of adultery. Most of the hatred that you hear and see is self-rightious finger pointing and name calling. In truth, it would be very unchristian to hate anyone.

You are correct. I don't believe G-d "totem poles" sin by making one worse than another. Having a loving attitude towards Gays is correct.
On the other hand, we live in a time when Society & homosexual activists are trying to push their lifestyle into the open & make it acceptable.
I applaude their desire for love & can see they face many challenges. They need love as much as the next person.
While I am not Christian, I was molested by a gay man when I was a kid. Because of this, I am not fond of legalizing the gay lifestyle because I know what was done to me was painful; both physically & emotionally.
On the other hand, I have numerous friends who are gay. I love them as much as any of my other friends.
