I do hope you have the patience to read these through with an open mind. Unless you accept that man is body, mind and spirit this concept will remain hard to fathom. Once you accept this you can tap into the eternal you (Godlike if you please) which is spirit not body and begin to realise that mind is the medium by which the body (ego/matter - led by the senses) communicates with spirit (all knowing and true self). I try and use a metaphor of the proverbial glass containing a beverage to express the concept. You wake up in the middle of the night thirsty and pour yourself the last drop of your favourite drink to quench your thirst (lets call that your spirit) in your favourite glass (body). For some reason the glass drops and shatters spilling your drink. You liked the glass and feel loss over it but your main concern is the drink because you are still thirsty (you have no other liquid and have to wait till the morning - symbolizing death = awakening or solution = realising your true self ). You spend a restless night (our time confined in the body) eagerly awaiting daylight. You can not guarantee/ proove that tommorow will come for you but remain hopefull and in the meantime you convince yourself a little thirst never killed anyone though your mind can not help but search for alternative courses to get you through the night (symbolizing our time on earth and the constant questioning/ confusion and sometimes anger about who we really are and where we are headed). You also begin to imagine all the people able to drink something and the drinks lined up on the shelves in retail outlets but momentarily, you can do absolutely nothing to get to one but empathize with those in your predicament (symbolic of the different faiths/ religions - both mainsteam and alternative). It's not nice and you can't bear the little voice inside you blaming you for not being prepared or checking if you were running out and restocking. You know it is entirely your fault (inner knowing = spirit = truth = Godlike = God) but choose to believe you were not to know it would run out in the middle of the night (to enable you accept failure without feeling a failure, learn from it and keep a mental note so you never get caught up in the same situation - you forgive yourself for the oversight and thus let the spirit take the upperhand. You might even find sleep!) or blame the people living with you for not reminding you (ego) to get more in etc (you refuse to accept your part in it and become the victim; wake the entire household/ neighbourhood ranting and raving about all sorts and the catalyst gets forgotten in the mayhem. The repercussions are monumental and once it dawns on you you overreacted you humbly appologise and either get forgiveness or not (you move away having learnt one of the greatest lessons in life). If you refuse to accept your part in it you retain the victim frame of mind and walk away bitter and twisted until you eventually cross the point of no return and become vindictive and vengeful. Have you ever been faced with a dilemma and felt pulled in two opposing directions? This is the point where you choose to either give the spirit (thus enabling God to guide you) the upperhand or body (sate your ego and follow the senses/ popular opinion). Did God then break a promise or did you use the gift of freewill to ignore the spirit (truth) and follow your own schemes (body/ego)?

sometimes a reading a different translation of the BIble is helpful...here is the New International Version that explains the verses in our modern day language..
19 God is not a man, that he should lie,
nor a son of man, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act?
Does he promise and not fulfill?

God is not an "unknowable" being. He made humans to be in relationship with Him, to "know" Him. The Bible helps us to know God, and God helps us to understand the Bible. Correct interpretation of the word of God is proportional to the interpreter's intimacy with Christ. As I know Christ better, the meaning of scripture is becoming more clear. I am not there yet though. There are many things where I don't have God's answers yet.

I really don't understand this question. What are you trying to say? It seems pretty clear to me. "not a man, that he should lie." Break it down and look at the context: people lie and change; he doesn't. Simple.
*Dang, I got two thumbs down and I still don't know what's going on. I was genuinely confused about what was being asked here.

God is not a man, nor a woman. He is a Spirit. A man is sinful; however god is perfect, so therefore He cannot be a man.

God is neither male nor female: He IS. God told Moses:" I AM that I AM." The Bible says that God is a Spirit. The Bible uses the male pronoun when referring to God because this is the standard in all languages when referring to the supreme being. God is not an it, and there is no pronoun that is gender neutral that can be applied to God. Since God is the head of the universe and its Creator, he is therefore referred to as 'he'. When the Bible says that were were created in the image of God this is to me that we were originally created in the likeness of his holiness. Adam and Eve were holy creations. When Adam and Eve sinned, they lost their holy standing with God and we have inherited this sin, that we might come to God in submission. Son of man refers to the office of prophet. God is not a prophet---God is God. Jesus Christ as the Son of man is the prophet of prophets.
