milk is good for heart burn but you would be better to get some gaviscon, heart burn is usually caused by the types of food you eat ie spicy and the lifestyle ie stressfull busy etc.

Take look here:
If you suffer from persistent, recurrent and severe heartburn, you should have a medical examination to find out if you are suffering from GORD (Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease
. More severe, chronic GORD, which can lead to permanent damage of the oesophagus, may be treated with medications called H2-antagonists and antacids. If medical and dietary treatments do not improve the condition, surgery may be indicated.
Dietary treatment
Patients with GORD should not eat large, heavy meals and are advised to have small, light meals at regular intervals.
·Try splitting up your three standard daily meals into five smaller ones
·Do not eat anything in the 3-4 hours before going to bed.
·You may find that avoiding spicy foods and condiments, very acidic foods, gassy cold drinks, excessive coffee and tea, and all alcohol, will improve your condition a great deal. Foods that cause build-up of gas that distends the stomach and forces acid up into the oesophagus may also cause distress.
Common gas-producing foods are:
·raw onions, garlic, shallots, leeks
·the entire cabbage family – cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, Chinese cabbage and red cabbage
·legumes (dry beans, peas, lentils, soya products)
This, however, can cause deficiencies if you do not substitute other foods that also contain the missing nutrient(s). The dietician will assist you with the correct choices.
Good luck & quick recovery-thanx.

Quickest way would be chew some tums or other store brought medicine you can chew. The next step up would be to by some zantac and take it regularly. Then you could even try the Prilosec OTC. This med especially takes longer then 12-24 hrs to kick in so don't expect instant success. If those don't do it for you or if you want definitive answers make an appointment with your doc. He can give you prescription strength stuff (which is covered by you insurance) and maybe even antibiotics if he believes its bacterial based (google H. pylori if you have questions on that).
Good luck

Gaviscon is great for heartburn. Or try ginger root extract from the health food shop, esp if you're going to get heartburn for a while. Ginger settles the stomach really well. It's also great during pregnancy, for morning sickness and heartburn.

Try drinking boiled water as hot as you can stand this might shift it .Keep up with the medication and watch your diet ----you should be able to identify the foods which do not agree with you by your bodys reaction to them.Do as the medics tell you .This can cause you life long discomfort if neglected.
