Wars can be fought with computers. every year nations hold simulation exercises and the results are within the realm of accuracy. The deal with computers is that you can hack into countries power grids and transportation grids and completely shut them down. It may only be for a few minutes, but that would provide the window of opportunity to launch a full scale attach. This especially would be achievable with EMR devices that kill everything that uses power. "War of the Worlds" is a bad example, but theoretically EMR devices do exactly what the so called alien machines were able to. EMR pulses are so affective they're being used in todays wars. Computers are so essential to war and strategy that if a nation lost their ability to use the computer, they might very quickly lose the war. Think about it this way. When a store's cash register's go down and they have to do everything by hand, how effective are the cashiers? Operations almost cease and you wait in line forever.

In a sense, yes. And there was a great episode of Star Trek about this where computers fought a war and the inhabitants of a planet had to just show up to termination based on the results of the computer vs. computer conflict. But as for the real world, I would say that computers and electronics are (and will be) involved in every aspect of modern warefare. However, there will always be a place for the soldier in a war.

War is fought by computers every day. Very few weapons do not have some type of computer control or enhancement.
The "next" major war has already begun.
Rumsfield's lesson in Iraq was that you will still need ground troops for every war.

ya but to some extend the computers are just a different face of the machines only, the tank made more powerful and computerised, call it still a tank or a computer, its all still man made, and man's responsibility.

We use some pretty sophisticated "decision support" computers in our operations. That's one of the things that makes us so capable.
