Yea, for sure it makes a guy want to drink more......Heres a plan, lets lure newcomers that are down and out, into our low life society!!!!!! Like ****!, It pisses me off that courts and million dollar rehab centers send good people to this ultimate act of horror, and that is exactly what it is!!!! Thanks for comments.... I still want to hear an aa guy here though!!!!!

I already know ist a "Bait and Switch" cult. See the orange pages for that, I know the relapse rate is 97%, but the one thing I really disagree with is the courts sending people to such meetings!!!!Simply because the "Only requirement to attend aa is a desire to stop drinking", Like WTF, and if ya go further(in their cult book) "We lead by attraction rather than promotion" So please tell me more!!!!!

My whole reason for not liking it is simple!, I know people can find "serenity" out of it and thats very cool. I just hate the fact that courts/detox and rehab centers can capitolize on it so much!!!Makes me sick...For a program that focuses on YOU!!They all have the easy way out when it comes to aa, "Yea she was here for 6 weeks, I told her to attend aa meetings" BOOM, Rehab is off the hook. And I only hate aa because they take too much credit for other peoples work......And they are a cult!!!!Read up on it!!!!

the person who posed the question seems to be boiling over with anger--it sounds like this really about whether judges should sentence defendants to AA. that's a totally different question than whether AA is good or not. if you don't dig AA, don't go. HOWEVER, the idea of judges ordering people to go to AA has been criticized because of its quasi-religious aspect and because people who go against their wishes may not do so well. I think this is all a consequence of the fact that most people who need professional addictions help don't get it for whatever reason--there's a good reason to WRITE YOUR CONGRESSPERSON!

It's not for everyone I'll say that and as far as it being a cult I don't agree... "They are all God fearing people who belong to those groups." They don't go out killing cat's and using them for sacrifice and what have u. They are just a suppport group for those in need of moral support when they can't find it otherwise and to keep them on the right track once they go on the wagon. All they do is share stories of their past transgression while they were under the influence, celebrate their birthday's of years of sobriety with a cake and share how there life have changed and bettered as a result of being sober. Those places are a "rock" for some whom couldn't cope before, it's where they feel welcome, at home and at peace within being surrounded by like minds, hearts and spirits otherwise some of them would not have made it or killed someone without an outlet to share and leason to others stories and not feel alone or ashamed.

I don't know what your faith is but it couldn't be that of God if you call AA a cult because he is always included in their ending pray of the day or evening.

Some of those meetings are very amusing and heart felt depending on the one you attend... "It's more like a social group, than anything." I've had some experience with them in the past so I know what I'm talking about...

The Second and Seventh District Courts, the New York Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of Tennessee have all ruled that AA is at least "religious in nature" and coercion by the courts violates the Establishment Clause.

And AA is running scared....At present, slight less than 2/3 of all newcomers arrive in AA after being coerced by the courts, Employee Assistance Programs, or by government agencies. AA attendence in the US is down slightly in the last ten years, but I expect this will snowball and put an end to AA as we know it.

Strange question.

I believe in the AA because I used to be a member, but I moved to the RAC because the AA was always sending me advertising. You see the AA yellow trucks everywhere - what's not the believe? See http://www.theaa.com/

Too many words! AA is unnecessary in my opinion. If one seriously wants to stop any certain activity they will stop.

Hey I agree with you. Whats the point in AA anyway. All you do every night is talk about alcohol and drugs. Why the hell wouldnt you want to go and drink if you talk about it all the time.

I believe in AA
I think that if someone has a problem
and finds help within other people
they should go for it
and better themselves
i dont see why it would matter to anyone else if they aren't in it

AA is a program that you use to try to do better. If you don't want to do better then you're wasting your time.

AA is for quiters.....lol
