If your hair gets greasy the next day then you have over active sebaceous glands and washing hair every day wont help you your just stimulating the follicle which produces more grease... there are a few things you can try that may help...
- use citrus shampoos.. lemon orange etc...
- avoid shampoos that contian almond or coconut
- when washing hair use luke warm to tepid water
- Never use hot as it opens pores allowing grease
- DO NOT massage scalp stroke shampoo on, massage stimulates roots
- DO NOT use conditioner anywhere near roots and scalp this adds to build up,
- use conditioner on mid lengths and ends (the hair near the root doesn't need conditioner as its new hair its the old hair that needs the moisture)
- and when doing the final rinses use cold water if you can as this helps close the pores = less oil and grease
Good luck

I have long hair and wash it every day. Its a myth that it makes your hair more greasy. Its also a myth that if you stop washing it your scalp will adjust, it won't. You'll just have greasy dirty hair.
Rubbing your hair with a towel or using a hot dryer will damage it, but not washing it.
Wash your roots with shampoo and check you're using the right one for your hair. Just let the suds run down the ends if its long. Rinse well.
Condition the ends but not the roots. And don't worry about washing it every day! Other than having greasy roots, mines in great condition and its just past shoulder length.

I don't know if you work or go to school, but when you happen to have a day off from whatever you do, try giving it a break and not washing it; just pull it back instead. I use a daily clarifying shampoo, which helps keep the buildup down.
I also did a search and found a couple pages of tips:
The first one just gives general advice:
http://www.wikihow.com/Keep-Hair-From-Getting-Greasy
The second lists some home remedies to try:

Is your hair really greasy every day? I put wax in my hair each day so have to wash it out - although at the weekends it's OK to leave it until the third day to wash - it's not that bad - but for work I feel I NEED to wash it every day. If you use products in your hair you could try cutting down on what you put on or in it so therefore might not need to wash it that much.

I'm not sure how long your hair is, but I don't wash my hair every day either. I wash my hair every-other day unless I've been playing some type of sport that would have caused me to sweat.
What I do on the days I don't wash my hair is wear it up. I put it in a pony tail or back in a barrett. Sometimes the little clip things.

I only wash my hair every 3-4 days, its not greasy becuase 'i've trained it to cope with not being washed more often'' by just leaving it. I also don't put conditioner on the roots as this can make it greasy and i don't use products on my hair!

Try Batiste.
Its a dry shampoo in a can. you can get it in boots for about £2
You can also get it by Label M at Toni and Guy.
I have naturally oily hair, even the day after ive washed it. When I use this stuff its great.
Just dont use it too close to the scalp otherwise it will turn white like deodorant does on your clothes.

I wash my hair every other day. it's not good for you to do it everyday, try washing it in cold water if you have too wash it everyday as it is better for your hair tahn hot water. I find mine feels better too when washed in cold water. Speak to your hairdresser about products you can try or why your hair is getting so greasy.

Hello there. It is likely that sebum(glands that cause grease) is increasing becausing of your using a shampoo everyday.I remember a tip I read, and it does work.Instead of washing the hair sprinkle talcum powder into the roots, and brush until invisable.make sure the powder you use is mild,to avoid irritation, possibly johnsons baby powder.hope this helps, regards roma
