As a shaman, and a philosophy student, I think.....
Firslty - there is an assumption that the creator and the creation are 2 seperate things. What if they aren't?? and that, sort of effectively, we are the 'mind' of god? (not using capitals - depends on your definition of god, and I'm using something along the lines of, that being that created all of this - otherwise you are just talking some spirit or other...).
and then... time! we refer to 'who did what' - which implies 'when' as a causative relationship. but, if we are talking about creation, wouldn't that also mean the creation of time itself? and thus, the question becomes a bit more.... non-sensical.
Consider this - if there was a creation, and then somewhere along it all, an 'all powerful' god came along and could bend the 'laws of time', couldn't he she it they go back into time to the beginning - before there was time?
But I'll go a previous answer given here as well - the anwers to this quesiton is beyond human understanding!

We all have a difficult time trying to understand the concept of an immortal God this is why we believe with faith because we cannot fully understand God with our finite minds, it`s just not possible, God is so far above our limited knowledge of Him that to spend our life trying to work God out is futile,I find it better to believe what Jesus has told us and accept this on faith.
We will never solve God He is an omnipotent being and in a way it would be like a worm trying to figure out what we are in relation to itself.
God has revealed all that we need to know for now in Christ and more than this is not possible while we are tied to this earth and our imperfect humanity.

I am a Christian, so my answer is given with that point of view.
No-one created God. He just "was". There was no time that he did not exist. One can fall into the trap of thinking that at some time in the deep past there must have been nothing. But there is no reason to think that. God simply always has been, always will be.

The human mind created them to rationalize things man either did not comprehend, or did not want to take responsibility for.

We created them, using our own imaginations, to explain what was not yet understood, and to reconcile ourselves with the reality of our own existence.
