as justification to spread hate and bigotry?

I just read the absurd answers for the gay going to heaven question.

You people quote hate from a book that tells of a God that could flood the whole earth and destroy whole cities. The Bible approves of killing pregnant women: Genesis 38:24, Numbers 31:17.

The God that I believe in is ashamed of that hateful book and they hateful people who spout the lies contained therein.

How do you justify yourselves to God.?

What possible higher authority could one use except "God Told Me So". It's amazing to see people claim that it's not hate and try to cover it up by saying the Biblical God loves unconditionally (you will not find that phrase in the Bible). If they had to stand before God and tell him WHY they did those things, the first thing out of their mouths would be "But you said... right here!!! in the BIBLE!!!!!" They place a book that was written by tribal people equal to Deity... in my lowly opinion, this is foolish. They claim it is the Final Authority (yet even the Bible itself says God is the Final Authority... not what is written about him). Whatever they use out of the Bible to justify hatred and intolerance is a reflection of the God they worship. And the more I read answers in here, the more hateful I see this God of theirs.

I caught a glimpse of one answer claiming you have fallen for the lies and misrepresentations of certain words.... YET!!! That person did not post what the True meaning of those words are. And, I am sure, all of us here know how to use a dictionary, which holds the definitions we, as a society, agree upon. I am tired of people claiming the definitions aren't what we think they are... this just makes their God appear to be even more vague! Like he has his own special meaning of words and leaves the rest of us in the dark about what those meanings are... yet expects us to know and understand. Talk about misrepresenting something!!!! Wow! The more they claim things like this, the more it looks like their God likes to play headgames.... but when they feel it's actually a headgame, they blame Satan. I guess they can't make up their mind about what they want these words to mean... they have to change the meaning of it when it concerns other people, but I'm betting the meanings of those words are exactly what the dictionary says it is when THEY use them against those of us who are not part of their Religion.

Sorry for the rant... it just irritates me that people who claim to KNOW give everyone else the friggin run-around and then point and say "You're lost"... well no wonder!! Look at the **** they deal out!

The official bible of the Church is the Latin Vulgate. There are several approved translations. My favorites are the Revised standard Catholic edition, and the New American edition. We wrote the bible, we added all the books at the same time, not later. It was the later Christians who abridged it. We read it, and we know what it says and means. Our Church has been teaching us the same thing for for 2000 years. We say grace before every meal, some old time Catholics say grace before and after meals. We as Catholics are unabridged Christianity. Pax Christi

Interesting; for another question I just pulled up the seven sins:
# 1 Lust (Latin, luxuria)
# 2 Gluttony (Latin, gula)
# 3 Greed/Avarice (Latin, avaritia)
# 4 Sloth/Laziness (Latin, acedia)
# 5 Wrath/Anger (Latin, ira)
# 6 Envy/Jealousy (Latin, invidia)
# 7 Pride/Hubris (Latin, superbia)

seems like a lot of these holier-than-thou christian answerers could use some work on #5 and #7.

For the catholics the list of virtues would be:
#1Chastity (purity of soul)
#2Temperance (self-restraint)
#3Charity (giving)
#4Diligence (zeal/integrity)
#5Forgiveness (composure)
#6Kindness (admiration)
#7Humility (humbleness)

Again, I've seen them fall short on #5,#6 and #7.

God is peace and love dear :

(Deuteronomy 20:10-14)

As you approach a town to attack it, first offer its people terms for peace. If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor. But if they refuse to make peace and prepare to fight, you must attack the town. When the LORD your God hands it over to you, kill every man in the town. But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder. You may enjoy the spoils of your enemies that the LORD your God has given you.

I justify nothing. I am not among those who have done these acts but look in to the bible and see all the hate, rapes and murders in it.

first What does the Bible say about rape?
If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.

What kind of lunatic would make a rape victim marry her attacker?

Lot refuses to give up his angels to the perverted mob, offering his two "virgin daughters" instead. He tells the bunch of angel rapers to "do unto them [his daughters] as is good in your eyes." This is the same man that is called "just" and "righteous" in 2 Peter 2:7-8. 19:7-8

Here is a man that offered his daughters up for rape

Murder...
Because God liked Abel's animal sacrifice more than Cain's vegetables, Cain kills his brother Abel in a fit of religious jealousy 4:8
God is angry. He decides to destroy all humans, beasts, creeping things, fowls, and "all flesh wherein there is breath of life." He plans to drown them all. 6:7, 17
God repeats his intention to kill "every living substance ... from off the face of the earth." But why does God kill all the innocent animals? What had they done to deserve his wrath? It seems God never gets his fill of tormenting animals. 7:4
God drowns everything that breathes air. From newborn babies to koala bears -- all creatures great and small, the Lord God drowned them all. 7:21-23
Sarai tells Abraham to "cast out this bondwoman and her son." God commands him to "hearken unto her voice." So Abraham abandons Hagar and Ishmael, casting them out into the wilderness to die. 21:10-14
God orders Abraham to kill Isaac as a burnt offering. Abraham shows his love for God by his willingness to murder his son. But finally, just before Isaac's throat is slit, God provides a goat to kill instead. 22:2-13
After God killed Er, Judah tells Onan to "go in unto they brother's wife." But "Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and ... when he went in unto his brother's wife ... he spilled it on the ground.... And the thing which he did displeased the Lord; wherefore he slew him also." This lovely Bible story is seldom read in Sunday School, but it is the basis of many Christian doctrines, including the condemnation of both masturbation and birth control. 38:8-10
Moses murders an Egyptian after making sure that no one is looking. 2:11-12
God threatens to kill the Pharaoh's firstborn son. 4:23
God decides to kill Moses because his son had not yet been circumcised. 4:24-26
God will make sure that Pharaoh does not listen to Moses, so that he can kill Egyptians with his armies. 7:4

All of this shows What?

IF the bible spread hate and bigotry, i am sad that you are not mature and old enough to distinguish right from wrong. hate and bigotry is wrong and IF the bible send those messages, christians are able to discern that such behavior is not appropriate. why focus on the bad messages? read the good. do you only focus on the wrong people have done in their lives and omit the good things they have done?

The Holy Bible is God's Word to humanity. What we perceive in it is pretty much how we feel ourselves.

2007-01-24 21:51:42 · answer #9 · answered by Anonymous · 1 2

The Bible is not used to spread hate and bigotry. The Bible is truth.

You have bought into the lies and misrepresentations of the words "tolerance," "judgment," "love," "hatred," and "bigotry."

I bet if you emailed me your definitions of those words we would vastly differ.

Here's a question for you - is it loving or kind or merciful to allow people you know are killing themselves to continue doing it? Or would it be better to, with truth and mercy, tell them that their actions will lead to their deaths?
