An escort woman is a prostitute by another name. Escorts service their clients by appointment, usually set over the telephone. They tend to charge more money and are usually more attractive than street prostitutes or brothel workers.
They are prostitutes, by definition, they provide sexual favors in return for money. It is not common that they only provide companionship to their clients (no sex), but that does happen sometimes ... not often. They normally are expected to provide sex for money.
