Like, the initial stages when someone looks at you from across the room/street/shop etc? I just cringe up and look down. I have lost loads of opportunities because of this. But the whole thing seems really cringy to me. Are you supposed to look and smile at the person? Does anyone else find this impossibily embarrassing?

Relax and if you like the look of the guy, smile back. Not a maniac smile though, just a small subtle one.

No I love flirting, always have done. However, it is not necessary a good thing to be called a flirt, well my mum did not think it was. The first stage is just mutual attraction. If the man did not like you or did not find you attractive then he would not be smiling at you or showing interest. If you like the look of him just respond by smiling back and let him take it from there. The initial start to what could be a great friendship should not be cringy. Be more confident, think what you might be missing. I mean it could be me, on the other hand that could put you off for life.

(ANS) I think it very much depends upon how someone approaches you, how they make their intentions clear towards you, flirtation itself can be fun, can be really exciting. Its about risk, its about the advanture & mystery of someone you dont know. How wonderful that someone wants to get to know you.
**Your comments about feeling cringy, regarding flirtation, says alot about how you feel when someone else finds you interesting, finds you attractive, when someone else wants to come closer to you. It says alot about how you dislike or feel very vulnerable in that kind of situation, perhaps the whole flirtation experience just makes you feel very embarassed because your suddenly the centre of someone else's attention.
**I totally and utterly hate being the centre of any attention, I want the floor to open up and to just well!! disappear. I cannot handle it but that's just me, its due to how I was brough up.
**I can see that flirtation shouldnt be aweful, it should be wonderful, enjoyable, it should be the icing on the cake. But like many things in life it does depend upon who is doing the flirting & how its being done. Yes! there's crass flirtation but there's cool or sophisticated flirtation too. It depends upon how good a flirtation style a person has. Yes! potentially it could be aweful but it doesnt have to be, it could be incredible?.

Yes I do, I guess it's because I fear rejection. Like if I noticed a really cute guy looking at me I wouldn't do anything cos Id'e be too scared he would look away and then i'de be shattered. I think ive missed out on many oppurtunities too.

I so much believe that flirting is reciprocal. When a guy flirts with you then you flirts back and the game's on. It's a creative endeavour based on a high IQ. So, see it from that perspective. Cheers!!!

very... i feel like a complete idiot, and have resided to the fact that I'm really not that sort of person... perhaps i'm a little more self conscious than most people, or i have a much lower embarrassment threshold than others.. either way, i tend to just feel really uncomfortable... hmm.. and i wonder why i'm single? ;-)

I love flirting! especially those initial stages, its so exciting and full of potential:) - but if you analyse it too much then yeah I guess it is cringy.
just relax and enjoy it! dont over anayse it - just be confident and sure of yourself - that is very attractive to guys.

depending on where it is - no - I ususally love it - flirting gives such an impowering sexy feeling - you should try and loose your inhibitions and start enjoying it hun!!
