Its just a pup and it's coat will continue to grow. At about 11 months it will go through a change of coats (puppy coat to adult coat) and watch for the coat to become easily tangled during this time. Continue to comb (not brush) and matting will be very minimal.
As you know a Shih Tzu must be combed everyday to prevent matting. Always spritz the coat lightly with a diluted leave in conditioner before combing to prevent breakage. A long coat must be maintained daily.

At 6 months don't worry it will grow.I would be glad that it is short right now, think of all the mess that would be in it.Now he can play and not worry about getting his hair dirty and getting a bath.Thanks for 2.

Well some treatments in vets have special vitamins either in shampoo or medicine that'll make your cutest furry pal grow more hair and belive me you are going to satisfy it.

go to your breeder and check out the pups parents... chances are if your dogs mom and /or dad carried long coats your dog will too.. genetics play a role here

yes it will grow.
its still a puppy and when its an adult .. you watch all the fur on it
