I am 24 weeks pregnant and have 2 Miniature Schnauzers. The female is gentle while the male is aggressive and unfriendly towards children and strangers. He may appear harmless but may just snap at them any moment (unpredictable). However, he does listen to my commands well and has never been disobedient to me. He is also intelligent but is easily jealous. I will not give up my dogs because they have been with me for 4 years. Does anyone have any suggestions to share on how to get my pet accept my newborn and make him love my baby like he loves my husband and I? Thanks in advance!

I love the Min. Schnauzer!
I have 2 myself, and oddly the male does get nippy to strangers and small kiddies running around. (He won't bite hard, just nips the pant legs!)
An age old trick is for you to introduce the newborns blanket or clothing that has it's scent on it. Then let the dogs see you and sit with you while you feed or change him/her.
Over time, the dogs will become comfortable with the addition. It will take time, but eventually your dog will become as protective of the baby as they are with you.
Schnauzers are territorial and want to be sure the homestead is safe for you. Mine normally react when kids or strangers run around the house.
Trust me, once that little baby of yours starts dropping Cheerios all over, they will be his/her best friend.
Congratulations, and Good luck!

You need to get your dogs used to children. Obviously they will be jealous, so be sure to give them just as much attention as the baby. If you are comfortable enough, allow the dogs to smell the baby and lick his/her hands. If they are friendly and gentle, be sure to reward them. If your male dog continues to be aggressive and snaps at the baby, you really should consider finding him a better home without children. Unpredictable dogs should not be in a home with a baby. I wouldn't take any chances, but I hope everything works out so you can keep him.

Keep the baby out of reach , thats the best thing to do. But gradually the dog will realise that hes staying with a new family member and accept the baby.
Good luck with the baby!! Im sure it'll be very cute!!

Some people I heard made the dog sit and wiped the nappy above the dog head, to let the dog know the baby is before the dog. Obedanice training is a good idea to.

He desires to equate the toddler with excitement. while the toddler is around, provide the dogs lots of interest, incorporate him and introduce him to the toddler. enable him scent the recent member of the %.. while the toddler isn't around, do no longer provide the dogs any particular interest. considering he's a pup, shop an intensive eye on him. He might scare or fairly scratch the toddler devoid of intending to.

take an obedience class.. make sure your dogs are spayed and neutered ... you probably won't have a problem because the baby is yours ....most pets accept there own families even when they do not like other peoples kids.

personlly the male is a danger to your child especally if he is jealous becuase you r going to be spending alot of time with the baby and not as much with him. call a bavior expert and make sure when you don't have the baby to give him attention too
