This would be confusing to your dog, and I assume, against your parents rules. Don't encourage it and risk she get in trouble when they are home.

all these people are saying its not fair to the dog but. I/we have a dog and it knows that it can get away with laying in our lawn furniture as long as I am not around to see him. anyone in the house can hang out with him while he is on the lawn chairs but the Minuit he sees me he bails! but, as a parent, if my child had a dog that I felt was going to mess up my couch that (prob cost a bit of money) and my child was not helping to keep the dog off of it, the dog would go. so if you keep letting the dog do that you may come home and find that the dog has a new home one day.

If you are old enough to get your own place, do so. If you do, you and your dog can do whatever you want. However, you are living in your parents home. You must abide by their rules. You will hurt your dog by confusing him. Let it be.

You can't....it's unfair to the dog to get mixed signals, she will only get confused and not understand why she sometimes gets disciplined for something and sometimes not. If your parents don't want her on the couch, don't let her....dogs only want to please, and as long as they know what is expected of them, they are happy to obey. Your dog won't mind not getting on the couch, don't confuse her!

It's a YES or NO thing, no grey area. You're better off keeping her off the couch period if your parents don't allow it.

Well when your parents r not there let her on every time but as soon as they come in tell her she has to get off. Do for about a mouth and a half and she will learn.
