Crime scene: in a house, a dead man with a gun in one of his hand and a recorder on the other. A gunshot through his head. No sign of violence. The detective in charge took the recorder and played it.

"I'm tired of my life, I wanna die."

*gunshot*

The detective asked the dead man's roommate "is this his voice?"

He replied, "yes"

The detective said "we must find the murderer"

How did he know it was a murder and not a suicide?

Because the recorder was rewound to the beginning, which the dead man couldn't do if he shot himself.

Edit: If the guy shot himself, then his grip could have been tight enough to hold onto the gun and recorder (and probably was through anticipation of the gunshot). If the detective played the recorder, then that means that it was shut off. I'm assuming that he played it at the point it was shut off. Unless the recorder shuts off automatically and rewinds, then someone would have had to do it. The dead guy couldn't have done it, being dead and all, since it recorded the gunshot (presumably the one that killed him). So someone else had to have done it. The murderer.

If the recorder was "played" by the detective....that indicates the recorder was OFF and the detective had to turn it ON. If it was recording when he was
shot, it would have continued on "record" [including the thump of his body and the recorder falling to the floor]. since this was NOT on the tape --
the man could NOT have turned it off, but another person did and probably erased the sound of the fall.

He should have dropped the recorder.

The tape was at the start of the tape, and the roommate was the only one there other than the dead man.

After shooting himself, he would have dropped the recorder or the gun or both, but they were both in his hands.
Nevermind, I just noticed it says "on" the other, how did the recorder get "on" the other hand? Under, I could understand, someone had to set the recorder on his hand!

because he still have the recorder in hand. he could have dropped it.
the recorder is OFF. if the dead man recorded how he died, he could'nt have put it OFF after the gunshot.

There was no blood on the recorder. So it must have been placed after he was already dead.

Now that I have read that, I will not be able to sleep or I will have nightmares. Are you happy? Is this the answer to the riddle?
