Does your church have a missions team? If not, start one! We are the body of Christ - if His church can't reach out to a hurting world, who can? Maybe God has laid this desire on your heart for a reason. There could be others in your church who feel similarly but don't know how to get involved either. My husband and I are starting one at our church (we are Baptists also), and we are going to focus on local missions.
We don't have to look far to see needs all around us. You, or a group from your church, could volunteer at a soup kitchen, have a drive at your church to collect food items for a local food pantry, or collect coats or clothing for the needy in your area. Right before Christmas, a group from our church went to an apartment complex and gave away free turkeys and gift cards to Walmart to those who might not have been able to afford Christmas dinner or presents for their kids.
Other ideas are:
1) Is there a crisis pregnancy center in your area? You and some others from your church could have a baby shower for some of the women. If there's a woman from your church who ever had an unplanned pregnancy, she could give her testimony.
2) Is there a Hospice in your area? They are always in need of volunteers to help care for the terminally ill. Even if it's just preparing a meal for them, making a gift basket, or keeping them company. They need to feel that people care and that they're not alone.
3) Check out the local nursing homes. There's always needs that need to be met there, even if it's just visiting someone whose family never comes to see them.
4) Check out local children's homes. They're usually in need of all kinds of things: clothing, games, toys, hygiene supplies, etc. You could help tutor them with their school work or maybe just go play a game with them.
5) If your local hospital will let you, you could provide free refreshments to those in the Critical Care or ER waiting room. A lot of people in these waiting rooms are hurting. You could offer to pray with them for their loved one.
6) Be on the lookout for families in your area who are in crisis situations such as losing their homes to fire. What could you do to help?
7) Look at the people in your own congregation. Is there someone in need there? As members of God's family, we should support and encourage our brothers and sisters in their time of need. Is there anyone who's been feeling depressed or going through a difficult time, such as losing a loved one? You could write them a note of encouragement and let them know you're praying for them.
Pray that God will show you how you can get involved in sharing His love with others. Use your imagination. There are hundreds of ways to help. God bless you for your caring heart! A caring heart is truly the heart of Christ.

Another idea: See if anyone in your church is interested in volunteering for Meals on Wheels. Or, if there are elderly or disabled people in your congregation, start a group that takes turns preparing and delivering meals to them.

Ask your elders and deacons what they need the most. Perhaps a grounds keeper, someone who can type or file, maybe do some mailing for the church.
Why not start a business phone directory for the church that way people can find out who is a Christian and in what business and patronize that business.
Perhaps helping to care for some of the elderly memberships, cleaning house, reading to them, driving them to doctor's appointments and such.

If your church runs an outreach ministry (like a soup kitchen type of thing) you could volunteer there.Do you have any single parents in your church? You could offer to take care of their children for a little while. You could visit some of the elderly at their homes, and maybe help them out with some errands. You could visit the sick members of your congregation. You could offer to help with activities in Sunday school or youth group.

You can do good things that are outside the church and still go to church. I would suggest a food bank or a soup kitchen or mission. Very satisfying and good for your soul.

Forgive me, but it sounds strange you would ask that question here when you already belong to a church? My answer is: ASK your pastor or senior members of the congregation that are members of boards within the church.

If your church has a feed the homeless program that would be good. Or you could volunteer at the day care, or to serve coffee.

You like helping people? Get your nursing degree, become an EMT, go work with the sick at the hospital....don't waste your time inside the church. The congregation will either shun you for trying to be different, or for coming up with something before they did (thus making you "better than them" in their eyes....effectively making you a social enemy) or they will take advantage of you and use you for a door mat....probably both. Go help people who really need it.
