Depends what kind of journey you want.
If you travel by foot, eat local food...... you will go far
To be honest, 100 USD is not a big amount even you can't buy a night stay in eastern part of China.

If it's one of the big cities ( Beijin, Shanghai, Tianjin, Xian, Hong Kong etc.) 1-2 days. But it can stretch to a week if you are in the smaller towns and spend frugally.

For some chinese that's a third of their annual salary, but expect to spend more money since you will be travelling and expenses are higher around tourist spots.

average wage in china is around 1,400rmb (school teachers) that will give you some idea, food is of course cheap also travel. you can tgravel 500 miles by coach for 200rmb.
