Depends what kind of journey you want.
If you travel by foot, eat local food...... you will go far

If it's one of the big cities ( Beijin, Shanghai, Tianjin, Xian, Hong Kong etc.) 1-2 days. But it can stretch to a week if you are in the smaller towns and spend frugally.

average wage in china is around 1,400rmb (school teachers) that will give you some idea, food is of course cheap also travel. you can tgravel 500 miles by coach for 200rmb.
