Air Force Chief Master Sgt. John Gebhardt, of the 332nd Expeditionary Medical Group out of Balad Iraq cradles a young girl as they both sleep in the hospital. The girls entire family was executed by insurgents; the killers shot her in the head as well. The girl is receiving treatment at the U.S. Military Hosp in Balad, but she cries & moans often. According to nurse at the facility Gebhardt is the only one who can calm down the girl, so he has spent the last several nights holding her as they sleep in a chair.

This was sent to me as an email with a picture attached of the Chief Mstr Sgt & the little girl aslleep in a chair. The photo was taken by Airforce personnel. The picture would surely make you take a long pause and take a hard look at this mans humanity.

It isn't on the news because the media doesnt want people to see that type of thing. all they want to show is the killing, and bombing.... not the schools, hospitals, and homes that they have built for the people of Iraq.

Oh, I hope your story is true, because (given the circumstances), it is the loveliest thing I have heard in a long time.

Surely everyone knows that war brings out humanity's highest highs as well as the lowest lows.

ADDED: I would not send it (at first, at least) to the more conservative media. That is not the audience you need to reach.

I have been anti this war from day one, but come on, this is a real person helping a real person. It is one of the faces of war that needs to be acknowledged; therefore, it is very important and newsworthy! It does not even matter on which "side" the people are.

It's tragic. It's unreal. But the situation doesn't follow the story line that the media outlets want us to see, read and hear.

There are hundreds,if not thousands of stories like that one which have and are occurring in Iraq and Afghanistan that are not being reported on.

They don't tell about the insurgents and terrorist wounded being treated equally along with our own fighting men and women.

Thank you for sharing this story with us. It is good to hear something positive for a change.
I do not understand why the Media is reporting only negative stories - are we really so bloodthirsty that we constantly have to be fed this kind of stuff.
I like to hear more about the everyday Iraqi and his/her family, how they are getting along among the gunfire, the insurgent's battling the US/Iraqi forces, how their daily life like going, how they manage to go shopping, going to work to school....

There is so much of this going on over there. The media can't sell GOOD news. If they did we would not have so many fighting against the war and misunderstanding. Pure ignorance.

This is a sad story and it should be on the news. At least something more uplifting than "two men were killed in Iraq today as a IED exploded next to the vehicle, killing them instantly."

There are thousands of stories like this that the anti-American press will never print.

I don't know if any of you remember back in December there was a member of the press who asked a question in this forum:

"What was the most underreported news story of 2006?"

Many people wanted more of the good things happening in Iraq. Gianna, you're the reporter we're waiting for, since we can't rely on them.

Thank you.

According to the Bush Administration we should be reporting more good news. That story is simply too realistic and would indicate how phucked up the situation is in Iraq. Sorry. :-(

By all means send it to Foxx news. Bill O'Reilly and Hannity at Foxx new, and also to Rush Limbaugh.

Beautiful Story.
