The term martial arts comes fromt he term (translated) the ARTS OF MARS.
Mars is the god of war- Art refers to the practice of it.
Thus martial arts means the arts of war, learning to fight.
the term "martial arts" is not an asian term (although they have thier seperate literal language terms for the arts of fighting) it is a western one.

All Martial arts are Military Arts. Martial meaning war or military. Not moving or something stupid like that. Ever heard of the term Martial Law? Like when A leader of a country Declares Martial Law? It means Military Law. So Martial arts means Military Arts

Mars is the god of war. Martial arts is the training for war. I think it was Chaucer who first used the term but I could be wrong on that .

martial=military . very few fighting arts are actually true martial arts. for a fighting art to be termed a martial art it has to be adopted by a country's armed force as part of their training programme for use on the battlefeild. taekwondo jujitsu certain styles of karate bushido and all samurai related fighting styles can be termed "true" martial arts as can western style boxing.
