so this guy is emailing me and i recently found out that he used to like me. but he doesn't live near me anymore. he started emailng me a month ago. could there be a chance that he still likes me?

If he liked you before and is not involved with anybody else, then yes he probably is doing this because he wants to talk to you. Otherwise he is just checking his girl charming skills and passing his time.
