good things about it: there are more entertainment... like karoke, game shop (where you order game like food), personal movie room (you get rooms to watch movie in with friends); not as much kidnapping, killing (you can see 5 year olds walking around alone); food; relationship with teacher (they are practically your friend and can eat luch with them); during school, you don't move around to find classes, the teachers move around; you loose weight because people tend to walk more; the older people are more friendly and it's not wrong to hold hands with your friends or kiss the on cheek (more friendship connection); certain holidays (like teacher prank day, white day- girls give gifts, valentines day- guys give gifts); mountains on all four sides

bad things: education (they are more competitive and the ranking are shown public); pollution; a lot of plastic surgery things; racism against japanese (most asian countries are against japan); etc...

I am an American who has lived in Korea a number of years. Mostly, I lived in Taegu and Pusan down south, but lived a while in Seoul (I do visit several times a year to see my wife's family). Seoul is a dynamic, vibrant city which has made great improvements in air quality, Han Gang water quality, roads and bridges, etc. Seoul was a small village, named HanYang, until the Yi Dynasty decided to make it the capital about six hundred years ago. As many Korea cities go, at age 600+ years, it is still recent. Until the time of the Korean War, most of the city was north of the Han River, but now has expanded well beyond what was formerly the grimy industrial area south of the river. Unfortunately, much of the ancient city, including the city walls, is gone (a few highly restored former city gates remain - Nam Dae Moon - "Large South Gate" being the most famous).

I lived 16 years in Seoul,Korea.
Seoul is a great place I think. It's fresh(I don't mean that the air is fresh; the lives of Koreans the way they live are fast and powerful) It's like New York. People are friendly too, they are really fluent in English so you won't get a lot of troubles.
If you want to visit Seoul, I suggest you to go to many traditional places, and feel them. Korean palaces(Goong) are so beautiful~

Seoul is one of the safest major cities of any place in the world. It is not uncommon to see children walking unaccompanied at any time. It is also safe for ladies to be alone on the streets at any hour too. A few years ago while there on business I had an acquaintance (female) get lost on the subway system. Two korean gentlemen escorted her back to her hotel at their own expense and refused any reward or compensation. The only thing that keeps me from living there is the cold winters....
