What is the biggest problem that you have with Islam?

I have problems with the concepts of all Abrahamic faiths, but I was raised Muslim and have left the religion now. I think that people need to be more tolerant, secular, progressive, more accepting of others. A lot of the Muslim people that I've met in my life have had a tendency to seperate themselves from other people, according to if they are Muslim or not. That is just the starting point to why Muslims act the way they do, for them the world is seperated into 2 kinds of people, Muslims and non-Muslims. Though the more educated a person is the less they do this... usually. So if I had one wish I would wish that everyone in the world had an education, especially Muslim women.

I know that lots of people have issues with Islam, even Muslims themselves. So tell me... whats the main problem for you in Islam and how do you think this problem can be fixed/improved?

muslim_teacher333 - I am not sick or a Muslim hater, I just used my freedom to make a choice, and my choice was to leave Islam. I think that you have forgotten the human in yourself, how can you even call yourself a teacher? The only teacher you can be is one who teaches evil and hatred. Every person deserves the choice to believe in what they want, Islam is not free or peaceful or legitimate if people cannot be given this freedom. Every person deserves to be respected. You can't just chop off someone's head because you don't like them or what they believe in. This is the problem with the Islamic world. You're tragic.

buncharoses - That is good to hear, seeing people as humane and inhumane beings who make a choice.

Momoko - You take things too personally. You have the right to an education but many Muslim women don't. You do not represent every single Muslim person in the world. It would be really great if every Muslim woman was as educated and liberated as you, but they simply aren't.

First and foremost it's Muslims themselves who misunderstand Islam. Those extremists do, those Muslims who won't give others a choice do, those Muslim countries who oppress women do, there are so many things. Denying that these problems exist doesn't just magically make them go away. If Muslims condemned the actions of the fanatics and extremists people wouldn't be so quick to misjudge Islam.

I think you are a very open-minded person having to 'reject' a religion that you are brought up in. Please do not blame yourself for giving up on Islam.

The only problem that I have with Muslim is that whenever someone talk negatively about them, they stage demonstrations and protests. However when 9-11 or other terrorists attacks happen, do these muslim stand up and protest against these terrorists if the latter is found out to be from the middle east and is muslim? No, they just sit quietly and watch/ gloat maybe. This problem can't be solve if they continue to be so immature and narrow-minded.

Of course not all of them behaves that way. Other than that, they are still cosider ok if they do not impose their religion on others. Glad you follow your heart and make your choice.

1st:There is nothing wrong with Islam,and there are no problems,the only problem that Muslims have is you,The People who misunderstand Islam,who think that Islam is a religion that means terrorism,hatred and violence.Islam is Completely different,it's a religion that respects Humanity.
and what proves what I'm saying that during wars Prophet Muhammed(peace be upon him) ordered the soldiers not to fight or hurt women,Children,old people,sick ones,injured ones and the hostages.
also For Muslims the world is not separated into Muslims and non Muslims and they have nothing against other religions especially Christianity.and I also have another prove,
prophet Muhammed(peace be upon him) let some Christians pray in a mosque as they were having a feast and there were no churches in the place,also he Ordered us to be good to them.
This is the true Islam,not the one that the media is trying to show
and If you want to know Islam more,Travel to a country that Have Muslims living with Chritians and jews,and you'll see how they treat each other there.
2nd:Islam gave woman her full rights,and If there are any uneducated women,it's not Because they are Muslims,May be they have any other reasons.

and my parents who are also muslims encourage me to graduate and work.

Any extremist religion is frightening, no matter which. Muslims themselves, provided they are moderate, are part of our society and no one notices them. I think when people begin to demand things - like the wearing of the veil - then it gets to be perceived as a problem.
Some people think they are more righteous than others - that is, wear the longer skirt, wear a veil, wear a cross - makes them more religious than the others around them. And this is taken as criticism which sets peoples backs up.
To go around demanding that people who insult the prophet should be beheaded is just something that we don't do. And if the Muslims themselves don't condemn it outright then it looks as though they are agreeing with the sentiments expressed.
So in my opinion, do more to integrate with our society. Chuck out the veils, the female circumcision (how can people do that to their kids?), the women seen as second class citizens. And be vocal in the condemnation of suicide bombers, etc etc.
The biggest problem with Muslims is the concept of "hurt one Muslim and you bring down the hordes" - let Allah take care of himself. Isn't he big enough to do so? If not, why whorship him?

Religion or faith should never be imposed. Thats what islam does. (on those who obey and on those who dont).

or may be the muslims are misinterpreting islam (i dont know) and behaving so.

they need to learn to be tolerable with others. and as you said it should be more Progressive and accepting others. And definitely more and more education will help to solve this problem. especially women. It will help to bring peace in the world in a big way.

Have you seen the enormous amount of hatred that some Muslims have? How some of them twist your religion into a grotesque and damnable thing? If you do not believe me try this site. There are some pretty powerful and compelling arguments.

Biggest problem I have with them is that when the christians invaded and the muslims were forced to withdaw/retreat/flee, they didn't save their libraries. All those books left for the christians to burn could have changed to world. We could have had the industrial revolution in the 15 century.
