Sure.
People will do practically anything to avoid falling, and when they do fall, they invariably look stupid.
Think of the last time you saw someone slip and fall.
Did they fall gracefully, or did they go down in an embarassingly sudden and quite undiginified manner?
And weren't they totally embarassed when they finally got up ... especially if they fell in view of others?
There you go!
Pride goes before the fall ... afterwards, there's only embarassment and feelings of inadequacy!

It is not complicated. God says of all the things he hates, a proud look is at the top of the list. That verse is saying that if someone walks in pride with a haughty spirit before the Lord, a fall is not far off. God brings down those who are lifted up in their own sight.
Prov 16:18
18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
KJV
Prov 16:18
Prov 6:16-17
16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

The story of Adam and Eve in the garden is a detailed illustration of "Pride goeth before the fall". Perhaps the only part that needs explaining is that the phrase implies FALSE pride....

Pride goes before a fall is an abbreviation of Proverbs 16:18: "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall."(King James Version)
It's designed to warn that often excessive pride will inevitably cause one to fall or fail.

Pride has been the downfall of many people. Pride in man and his abilities makes him think that he is self sufficient and does not need God. People do need God but pride gets in the way and they refuse to acknowledge God. Man says to himself I got my education, a good job, and my family never giving thanks to God that He has given us all these things. Pride is an idol which many men worship. Humble yourself before God.

"Pride goeth before the fall" essentially means that if you get too uppity, don't be surprised when people laugh at you and generally revel in your humiliation when you finally mess up (i.e. Martha Stewart).
