I just got two 8 week old kittens who were a bit undersocialized at first, but now seem to be getting better... well anyway when i hold either of them they seem content because they purr and everything, but they get distracted very easily and usually end up jumping out of my arms after about 30 seconds. they usually get distracted by each other, or just anything.... is this just a kitten attention span thing, or do they feel a bit uncomfortable when i hold them? they don't seem uncomfortable, which is why i am confused. Should i just let them jump out of my arms then try again? will i ever be able to hold them for longer than 30 seconds? what should i do that can help me be able to hold them as adult cats?

cats dont like high pitched hissing-type noises. believe it or not some people naturally make these types of noises due to breathing patterns and facial anatomy they might have. It could be as simple as a frienly doctors visit to correct the problem.

They are relatively new to their new inviroment so they get some what nervous at times, they will grow up and as they do, they will get used to their home and you, so be patient with them and they will soon know that nothing in your home will harms them. make sure that you have a litterbox in an area that is private to them sop nothing disturbs them when they go. You don't want a problem there. Some cats are afraid of loud bass on TVs and other people. Give them time. They will be fine. I believe this because of past expierience and you care. Good Luck. Also, thank you for giving them a nice home. Spay and or neuter ant 5 and a half months.

I think that zoots is nuts. It's just an attention thing. You are correct that much handling when they are young makes them more comfortable as adults.

Also, there is just some variablity in how much a cat likes to be touched. It's got little to do with you, it's mostly a genetic thing.

You should just let them leave your hands when they want to. If you try to hold them when they want to go then they will resist getting into that situation again, and it will be worse than ever.

So, everything will be fine. Kittens are great, aren't they?

Cats have unique personalities so while it could be (and most like it due to) that they are young and playful it could also be that they just don't like to be held for long periods of time. You wont really know which one it is until they are over a year old or more. I wouldn't be discouraged! Purring is a good sign and more than likely they will come around - they are just in their "toddler phase" and want to be all over the place. Keep attempting to hold them and play with them and see how it turns out. Good luck and don't lose hope :o)

Hi,
Why don't you try making a fuss of them separatly, try giving one to another house member to take into a seperate room and swap over now and then this way it will boost ther confidence and they won't feel so intimidated by you
also kittens can get distracted quite easily and are not as cuddly as adult cats, so all in all this is probably just a phase they are going through!!

you must rememeber that they are still babies.they have a really short attention span and want to explore their environment. and beacause you haven't had them all that long, they're still getting used to YOU. when they settle down a bit they will be fine. just like humans cats mellow as they get older.they will be more affectionate when they know you better. be sure you aren't mean to them.then they won't like you.

it is probably because they are so young. ours did the same thing. she did calm down though. there are still times when she wants down. i guess there are some cats that have to be held when they want to be held and some that love to be held anytime. when they reach the right age don't forget that spay/neuter also can help calm them down

When the time comes don't forget to spay/neuter them, this will slow them down and they will interact with you more. For now let them be kittens
