Last night I was at my house with my best friends little sister, watching a movie, when she decides to go to the restroom. Amelia’s twenty-three and I’m twenty-seven, her brother and I go back to elementary school. I’ve known Amelia since the day she was born. We never really got along too well, she was always arguing about something and I was always telling her to shut up.
Anyway when she went to the bathroom I though I would pull a prank on her and scare her… I know stupid and a childish idea, but I didn’t think any harm would be done! Everyone’s done it before, hide in a dark corner and scares the hell out of the unexpected person.
Well let me get to the point. My house is very big and can be pretty creepy at night. I waited until she was done in the bathroom and walking out down the dark hall, then I jump out and scared the crap out of her!
I guess I thought she would have laughed it off or try to punch me like always. Well she screamed really loud and punched me in the chest, and stormed off. I was laughing because I thought it was funny at the time. When I went back to the living room where we were watching a movie her back was tuned towards me, and her shoulders were shacking really badly. I was kind of shocked because she NEVER cries!
I don’t know what came over me but the next thing I knew I was on the sofa with Amelia in my lap while she sobbed, as I stroked her hair and back, telling her I was sooo sorry. It was like an hour later and she was still holding on to me crying hysterically. She cried until she was physically exhausted.
I don’t get it we do dumb crap like that all the time and she has NEVER cried before. I know it was a stupid, stupid thing to do. I think she was crying for some other reason but I don’t know what.
Could she be crying for another reason? Is this a normal reaction?

Not being harsh or anything, but do you know how many women get raped and attacked in their own homes at night? Did you think about that before you scared the poor woman? Do you know how frightening it is for a woman to be approached like that in the dark, alone? Maybe shes already experienced something similar? Im not saying she has, but alk to her, tell her that you never meant to make her cry, just pranking like usual and that you meant no harm for it. Tell her you were stunned by her reaction, as its one you've never seen from her before. Tell her that if ever she wants to talk to anyone about situations, new or old that you are there.
Then again maybe she likes you and manage to wriggle her way in closer to yuo by being emotional?
Just talk to her, us women can be a bit wierd, but were simple creatures really, just takes time to crack the shell.

I'd expect the jumping out of dark places from a 15 year old but 27???? can we say grow up? lol
in answer to your question...yes, it's a normal reaction to having the **** scared out of you...she may have had a really bad day, week, month, and you as a friend pulling that crap was the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak. It could be close to, if not her actual "time of the month" when a woman can tend to be a lot more emotional than normal. (were you also watching a scary movie at the time to compound the problem??) There are a lot of reason why she could have cried...& it could just be that she was totally shocked, and had a 'fright or flight' reaction (at 27 you should know what that is, if not, look it up) ...her's being complete fright.

I don't think she was cryign BECAUSE you scared her. There was somethign more to that but you can't know what. It may be something biult up, and you scarign her was only the last straw that broke tha camel's back. She may have a crush on you, being HOT doesn't mean you can't get feeling for someone and not know what to do about it. It may be something to do with horrmones, coz thier level changes according to the wrong period of the month. Aslo because she never cries that turned into this long lasting one, the burst of whetever was piling up. Just be a bit more considerate from now on, ok?

No not at all..how can this be a normal reaction???when you say that you know her since her birth and that she never cries, then you very well also know that this was not a normal reaction..she was surely crying for some other reason.after-all,she is 23 now..she can not cry that long for that stupid reason.being her friend, you should help her.just try to find out what is bothering her so much..you are 27!!quite matured to help someone isn't it??
well, you are really a good person sir..at least you are thinking for your friend..hardly anyone does that now-a-days..so, just go ahead and solve her problem sir..best luck.

she could be on her period. women are very sensitive. at the same time it is a normal reaction if she was traumatized by something similar in her past. a ups truck passed us by on the highway one time and as it did the truck backfired and one of the girls we were with screamed bloody murder nd would not stop crying for about an hour. so happens that she witnessed a drive by shooting that killed her father. or maybe the reason you teased her in that manner is cause deep down inside you really like her and she has a mutual feeling, why else would she let you stoke her hair? maybe she liked the attention she was receiving from you and prolonged the situation. sorry i wasn't much help.

OHHH i thought maybe you were watching "The Ring". Personally i think it was a silly thing you did. People are all stressed by what we hear see and experience. I am sorry to say but should you do that to me i would have hit you so hard, just self-defence. Maybe the poor girl had something on her mind, maybe she was scared, maybe someone was spooking her and there you go jumping out of the dark. Hopefully you will make it up to her. :)))

Yeah similar things happened to me before. There was a gym in my city which had a large and nice swimming pool where I went to have fun with my friends and bro .One day after we had a cool dip in the pool and decided to go back.I found all my clothes were gone.I searched all over the place but still couldn't find them. And suddenly I felt so helpless and I just started to cry.And when my friends saw this they hurried to pass me my clothes hidden under the box.and they were actually still laughing about my crying over so little things then. But I just couldn't stop it.Its like the gate to my crying system was opened.I wasn't really mad at them or felt sad or something simply because I wanted to cry.Their deeds started my crying and I kinda got that as an ignition...anyway its like this.I think all girls have such experiences when sometimes in their life they just want to cry loud for some unimportant or even no reasons,so I think you dint really have to feel bad about this since you did apologise and comforted her after that.hope that will be at least a little helpful=)

Being scared like that could traumatize her to the point of crying and it would be a normal reaction.
My guess in this situation however is that maybe she likes you, more than a friend, and was hurt that you would scare her so bad. You should talk to her about this very carefully and in an open and honest manner.

You're probably right that it was over something else and the scare just set her off. Maybe she has a crush on you and was upset that you would hurt her like that. I've had PMS before and cried for hours over the silliest things. Apologise again and maybe send her flowers.

Like you really scared the shite out of her!!! Geez your lucky she didnt have a heart attack!!! She may have been crying for another reason, who knows, perhaps something may have happened to her & your scaring her brought it all out - Just in future dont do that to people.....I hope you learnt your lesson. It was nice though that you consoled her afterwards... Heres an idea, just ask her is she ok, and if she has anything she wants to talk about!
