It is deteriorating and even completely gone in some places, but this is hardly new. The wall has been in need of repair since it was built, like any other fortification. The difference is that in recent years it has not been maintained or repaired as much as previously so the rate of visible damage appearing has increased.

Well, I haven't heard anything about that, but I wouldn't be surprised... then again, I do not know about China. With the right weather and such, it could most likely disintergrate in about... i don't know, hundreds of years?
Again, I'm not aware of this. You should looking into new sites to see if they said anything about it.

It is starting to crumble in places, yes. I was there last year and there were huge sections shut because it was dangerous but there is a lot of restoration work underway to preserve it.
