As far a home remedy, I heard toothpaste works. Wipe it from the inside out, not in circles.

There must be a cd fixing service around you somewhere. In one of the mom and pop owned video rental shops I go to, they fix cd and dvds with a big machine. They charge according to amount and severity of the scratches on the disks. They charge about five dollars. Maybe calling around would help. If you don't want to try it that way maybe you could buy a small machine that polishes cds at an electronics store. Those cost about 20 dollars I think. I have personally never tried fixed cds after scratches. I hope that helped.

If you're not going to buy a scratch repair kit which they should sell at any local Sam Goodys/Best Buy/etc, I've used a small amount of toothpaste (the tiniest amount, like a speck) and rub it in a forward motion from the inside to the outside. It works on small scratches but not on major ones.

i have a Skip Doctor and have used it to repair innumerable scratched CDs and DVDs.

if you have a scratched CD,after repair, copy it and use the copy for day to day use

or rip it to your hard drive, connect your computer to your stereo with a 5.00 1/8" stereo plug to two rca plugs cable from the computer's line out/headphone out(you may need a headphone splitter if you have computer speakers plugged into that output another 5.00) to your stereo's aux input and listen to all your music without ever having to physically put in a cd again therefore never risking a scratch again. i did that and haven't actually put in a cd in years...

i highly recommend the disk doctor...

Using a cotton swatch (not a cotton ball),dip it in Rubbing Alcohol, and wipe the CD/DVD in a circular motion. Let the CD/DVD sit for about 5 mins, before using it. (PS) Don't use toothpaste, because toothpaste contains abrasives, which will scratch them. (But) You can use toothpaste to clean eyeglasses! (lol)
