Hi :)

My name is Drew and I came the United States when I was 6 years old. I grew up in US and I joined the U.S. Marine Corps when i was 18 years old. I have been a permanent resident for a 14 years, and I've been a Marine for 2 of them. Until recently I never bothered to become an official citizen because it wasn't a priority. Now I think I would like to become one, but I'm not sure how to go about it. I was planning to talk with my C.O. but it's currently 200 where I am. I tried reading up on the USCIS website, but I don't really know how to find the information I'm looking for. I was told that since I'm a member of the U.S. military my process to become a citizen will take less time. Is this true? Anyways, Any information somebody could provide me would greatly be appreciated

Thx

Yes, it's all true. Here is special information for US servicemen that I hope will help you get started. Look at the links at the bottom and right side of the page, as well. Good luck!

Bush signed a Presidential Order saying military can become a citizen on day 1 of either 'active duty' or 'combat duty', I am not sure which. Have you done either?

There should be someone at the Marines who could help you wiht this.

Actually, look at dognhorsemom's answer. From prior posts, she is a consular officer.

I haven't got much info for you buddy. But since you have served our country, I would think that you becomming a citizen wouldn't be a problem. Thank you for serving either way.

Talk to your C.O.
I recently found out that even Captains have mothers so they must have some humanity in there somewhere.

You don't talk to the CO about a matter like this. Use your chain of command. Isn't that what you've been taught?
