"Do Christians believe that Crucifixion is the most painful way to die?"
Don't you?
"There are instances during the Crusades where pregnant Jewish women were lanced in the womb by a knight on horseback and left to die."
And it was wrong. There were instances were Jews persecuted and killed Christians in the early dayd of the Church, and it was wrong. Pagans threw Christians to the lions, and it was wrong.
Is it your point Christianity is wrong due to the actions of horribly misguided individuals 1000 years ago?
Athiestic communists killed Christians, imprisoned them, tortured them, turned their churches into horse barns, etc. and it was wrong. They killed over 100 Million people.
I guess I can't convert to athiesm either.

Some Christians probably do, but not for religious reasons; it's not a belief required or taught by Christianity. To my knowledge, there's no creed or doctrinal statement from any branch of Christianity that declares that crucifixion is the most painful way to die and I greatly doubt that one exists.
As everyone here has pointed out--and as medical experts attest--being crucified is very painful and takes several hours (the Romans were being merciful when they broke the legs of their victims, it'd kill them much faster). But in Christian belief there's nothing unique about crucifixion that makes it particularly suitable for atonement. If you ask most Christians if Jesus could have accomplished his purpose if he were executed by beheading, they'd think it was an odd question but would probably say sure, why not? There are many theories of the atonement in Christianity (none of which has ever been raised to the level of a doctrine) but none of them put any iimportance on the amount of physical pain that Jesus suffered.
Is crucifixion the most painful way to go? It's a matter of opinion, I suppose. I'm a Christian, but personally, I'd rather be crucified than executed by scaphism, which can take over a week in some cases. Any Christian who insists that Christianity teaches that crucifixion is the most painful way to die is simply making it up; the religion in no way suggests such a belief.

Ouch! i will never get that out of my head now..
anywayz.. firstly its not the actual punishment its why they did it. secondly it was about the way they totally rejected Jesus that would have hurt him more that the Crucifixion itself.
heh not to sure if thats right.. but anyway thanks!

It may not be the most painful way to die -- but it certainly was the most painful and most humiliating form of capital punishment used by the Romans at the height of their empire.
Would you care to cite your sources to back up your claim about knights lancing pregnant women in their wombs?

Okay, obviously you are coming from a very painful place and I won't excuse what has happened in the past, but it is more about the actions during the Crusades by the soldiers at the commandment of the Empire and not because of Jesus.

I think only the Catholics really play up the Cruci-Fiction (look how thy lapped up that bloodporno by Mel "I hate the Jew" Gibson)
Now certainly it CAN"T be how horrible his death was, because millions of humans have died more horrible lingering painful deaths than Jesus is purported. Try dying from pancreatic cancer some time. Try being tortured as heretic during the Inquisition...very creative people, the religious.
And it really can't be just about "death" itself. Thats a fear to humans, but to a god who knows of the afterlife, it's a breeze. So not much of a sacrifice actually. Same thing with fear of hell, he KNOWS he's going back to heaven...knows it more certainly than the most devout xian EVER will. So where is the sacrifice.
Some xians say it was his separation from god the father that was the true torture. See my answer in the previous paragraph.
Thinking about the cruci-fiction is like a form of mental masturbation for xians. Now don't get me started on the trinity.
EDIT
EDs...you do realize you are clinically insane? A delusion is a DSM-IV clinical diagnosis. Christians are delusional.

You do realize that the Romans were known the world over for their torture? You read about the lashings and understand that the whip had bones and stones tied into it. It ripped the hide off of a person's back. You do understand that the person was to carry their own cross. You do understand that the nails were driven thru the hands and feet. You do understand that hanging by the hands, a person could ONLY BREATHE by pushing up with HIS feet. You do understand that they were hanged in a shameful manner for their friends and family to watch. You do understand that HE was hanged among theives and HE was sinless. You do understand that if the person did not die in time that the Roman guards were to break their legs to make sure that they suffocated. This was not an EaSy DeAtH and I doubt that you would sign up for it. It was a slow and painful death that was very humiliating for HIM. Think and read before you make such statements!

I think being stoned to death would hurt more, but they must have decided that it wasn't humane. It probably was the only option at the time.
