I totally agree with you. No deterrent what so ever now is there? Mind you, this 'respect' rubbish they are inventing may help, as if. The answer is simple! Stop ploughing money into fighting wars in other countries and concentrate on our own country, then build more prisons to house the vermin.
I could be a persistent, prolific burglar, drug dealer and car breaker making a tidy package, it's OK though, I'm not violent nor am i a sex offender so I can continue to do this as it's OK. even my 9 year old son answered this last night, he said "why should they get out of prison soon dad? they should stay there until they die or have really learnt how to behave"
The government's gone mad, WHERE ARE OUR TAXES GOING?

SIMONE. Are you living in the UK? I would guess not, either that or you've not seen the news. Our Home Office Minister, John reid, has written to every judge in the UK telling them not to imprison criminals unless they have committed robbery, violent crime or sex offences, why? because our gaols are full. Welcome to lawless Great Britain.

The £1,000 is obviously very wide of the mark. But costs could easily be brought down if everybody in prison was teated the same, what ever bed is available put the next prisoner in it,by that I mean don't segregate them. Why should it cost more to keep a peadophile than a bank robber. Why should any of them have Sky Tv or Play Stations Why should there be a different menu for ethnic minorities.I'm sure that if I was imprisoned in their countries I would not get the food of my choice. As the man said if you don't want to do the time don't do the crime.

I do not understand the question, if you commit a crime in the
UK or anywhere for that matter, they catch you they lock you
up............................What it costs them is not your business
if there are criminals out there and they are not dangerous
then they can be held at home under a system of house
arrest, i.e. people who commit crimes which do not have
a violent component to it, how does this mean they get of
especially if they are braceletted..............................................

If it does cost a 1000.00 to keep a dangerous criminal behind
bars than so be it, rather in jail than on the streets where they
can commit another offence against an innocent person.........

Jails do have furnishings, especially the ones in the UK............
or Britain, who said they will not be jailed, which country
do you live in, if you do the crime you do the bloody time...........

i will answer ur question as to why they cost so much?

it doesnt cost a thousand pounds a night but high security prisons cost much more than other prisons due to the facilites they provide.

i recently visited a high security prison in liverpool and been toured around their facilities.

- food / water / electricity

- computer rooms / internet bills

- entertainmnet ( playing consoles / tvs)

- wages of staff incl guardians / doctors / psychologists / religious leaders / work shops employees

- upkeep and maintanance (the place was spotless clean with pretty pansies planted in the grounds and lawn)
- numerous electrical gates and videos cost a lot and they need maintanance once in a while

- every furniture imaginable has to be made approproately for the prisons as everything is unmovable, mostly made out of concrete and telephones, tvs etc are made of clear plastic to make hiding stuff in them difficult

some minumum security prisons are like country clubs they have pools and tennis courts were white collars criminals are catered for

upkeep and upkeep are the duty of the owner. he's charging you lease and area of that lease is to enable him to maintain that sources in a liveable difficulty. See the voters suggestion bureau yet in my opinion he can't cost you for ending up his household projects. The police received't become in touch as that is a civil count number, except the court docket unearths adverse on your ex-landlord and he nonetheless refuses to refund the monies in touch, then that is conceivable he will be charged with robbery.

Are you stupid? It obviously depends what their offence is. If I were to come up to you and kick you up the jacksy I doubt I'd go to jail. But if I sliced you in to little pieces I would!

And I've seen different costs for keeping prisoners but I don't think it's as high as that. And serious offenders like terrorists will obviously cost more.

Try not to believe everything you read in the Mail!

Well, they need to maintain the upkeep of their PS2's and Sky tv... I'm not kidding! I know someone who works in the Prison service and the inmates have Sky TV and PS2's available to them in their cells. It's like a hotel except you can't leave when you fancy it. Many poor crooks want to go to prison as it's better than their homes!

They work out the cost per inmate by adding how much it costs to pay the staff, all utility costs etc, your right though our justice system is a joke.

Because police officers have to be paid wages to guard them, as they cannot be trusted to stay in their cells on their own. Emagine that!

Isn't the money spent on protecting their 'human rights' after they have just ruined someone else's life???!
