if I try and open the documents through word they open fine. why does my computer keep saying not responding when I try to open the documents through explorer and is fine when I open it through word?

Sounds like there is some corruption or an add-on is causing it to fail.

Try using the 'Detect and repair' option under 'Help' in Word. It is usually very good at sorting problems out.

Run a full virus check and rename or delete the Normal.dot file stored in C:/Program Files/Microsodt Office/ if it gets corrupted it can cause this problem. When you've deleted it Word creates a new Normal.dot file to replace the missing one.

I agree, I think you may have a virus. You might try deleting all temp internet files and running norton then possibly restore your system after backing up all your important files.

information superhighway Explorer sucks! swap to a distinctive browser...that occurred to me for all time whilst i became utilising IE too. yet you will have a deadly disease or some thing too, so get that checked.
