The ones that say, "You wanna have your cake and eat it too," I'm guessing, take a photograph of it. What then happens to the cake??

this is an old saying that you can't have your cake and eat it too!
i.,e.,if you ate it you would no longer have it! Right?
So., you can't have your cake and eat it, too!
This came about because some people don't save for things, and they spend all their money on frills and fluff instead of things they really need! So, then when something happens where they really have a need for something they carelessly didn't save for; they can't get it!

you no longer HAVE the cake !!
The saying IS saying
the individual being mentioned wants to eat (consume the situation in full) and still have (not be "without" ) the thing that was consumed !!! Not nearly as "dumb" as some "bright" ones think !! As a matter of fact -- it is extremely descriptive of a lot of people's behavior !!!
Oh, with the photograph thing--- you have a PHOTO --- not THE CAKE !!!

I say bake it, cut it, eat it. If you're going through the trouble of making a cake, you mine as well as take full advantage of it.

It means nothing to do with baking or cakes. Its when you want something and want more after wards.I want this (gas money) and then you want a car to go with it. I want one but I want two

make two cakes, and you will still have, after you have eaten.. of course not the same cake.. but what does it matter...still from the same dough.
