Vista bundles a lot of the same technology XP has
XP professional in my opinion is better
Vista forces IE 7 on you and boasts of having some of the
best security out there but the reality is MS(microsoft) is new to the
security game and will not let many outside vendors use
Vista's kernel so most are left hanging.
XP is a tried and true operating system that once longhorn
aka Vista is released as with XP nowadays it will be
the standard in store bought machines.computer Mfg's
will only have a year to preinstall XP after that Vista
will be implemented in all machines.
if you do not want File,Edit,View,Favs.Tools or Help
Vista's IE 7 is for you,I hear all to often this and that will not work
with Vista so it is Not going to happen on my watch.
it has done absolutely nothing to convince me to switch and
is Not necessary given the problems MS still has to work out
sticking with XP Pro and My choice of security not theirs

There is one very big difference between XP & Vista
That is in the Digital Signing of software. To be able to install software on Vista MS is claiming that it will have to be Digitally Signed just like the Hardware is now on XP. The only problem here is that if MS Pushed ahead along the same lines as Hardware Digital Signatures the companies involved Can Not provide any support for different platforms.

At first I think that you'll be able to install unsigned software but when the second version comes out 4 years after the original product release of Vista things might be very different and you'll be unable to install any unsigned software. From what was said at the last MS Partners Meeting that I attended you will be unable to use any unsigned Hardware on Vista this was touted as one of the new Security Features but there may very well be resistance from the hardware makers as to get a Digital Signature they must sign a contract not to support any other platform. And the same is going to start being applied to Windows Software as well. There could very well be some major Software Houses who write software for various platforms who resist this change and this could force some users away from Vista.

This is MS's way of ensuring Market Share but I don't know how well it will work and this depends on just how happy business will be willing to accept being dictated to by MS. Currently the stated aim is to only allow Digitally Signed Hardware to be used with the original Vista and as Vista is going to be the backbone of all MS Development for at last the next 10 years things could get nasty. As MS is saying they are expecting to release 1 major update 2 years after the product release and then at the 4 year stage a new OS. So if MS stick to this we'll be seeing 3 major updates along the lines of SP2 for XP and 2 new OS in the next 10 years which MS is expecting business to adopt very shortly after it's release so that companies no longer will skip an entire product range like many did when ME & 2000 was released.

Many companies just continued using 98SE as it was still on sale and it even outsold XP until it was removed from sale so MS saw many companies completely skip ME & 2000 and move from 98 to XP when they where forced to upgrade their computer systems.

I don't know how well this will work for MS and I guess that Only Time Will Tell!

It could be a brilliant move on the part of MS or it could backfire badly and make the choice to move to a different OS a really good idea to a lot of Business. I'll be looking on with interest.

Vista is paired with Xbox. It's designed similar to the PS3 console (ironically) so its pretty user friendly. It has an entertainment center where you can play Xbox, downloaded movies, music etc. on any connected device in the home.

Vista doesn't just have menu bars, but you can scroll through screens which layer on top of each other, so its visual and easier to recognize what you're working on.

Thumbnails show the content of the file, not only the name, and you can preview some content, video clips etc. without opening the file so you can print straight from the icon.

As you type, it narrows search results so searches are quicker and you won't have to type the whole thing in.

There's some other tidbits too but theres a long answer condensed a bit.

There are some notable differences between Windows XP and Windows Vista. NetMeeting has been replaced by Windows Collaboration while MSN Explorer has been removed completely.

The "My" prefix on "My Computer", "My Document", etc. has also been dropped.

Windows Vista also no longer supports older motherboards technologies like EISA bus and advanced power management (APM).
