Whether its in the Peanut Butter Goddess of another Y!A question or in nothing at all, what has prompted you to believe as you do? A family tradition, a miraculous event, or just what you consider common sense? Your thoughts on this subject would be appreciated!

I didn't simply believe, when i engaged in the spiritual growth in the religion I have now, I constantly go for study, discussion, research and contemplate. In some case family tradition or a miraculous event may happen to you, which may affected you in some aspect, but it only act as one of the factor for you to explore more than just simply believe in so call 'faith'.

DO NOT BELIEVE FOR THE SAKE OF BELIEVING. That's always the wise advice.

There is no other book in the world like the bible. No other book , religious or otherwise, is 25% prophesies, most of which have come to pass. Some of them, like Isaiah naming Cyrus 300 years before he was born, are so specific that scholars say the books must have been written in pieces during different time periods. The messiah prophesies are so specific that the only way Jesus could not have been the Christ is if he were made up by the diciples. BUT consider this, all of the disciples but one died horrible deaths and most gave up prosperous lives to spread the word. How difficult would it be to find TWELVE people to give up all they had and die terrible deaths (like being filleted) for what they KNEW was a lie? The dead sea scrolls proved the accuracy of the old testiment we have today compared to before Christ was born, so one can not say that the Christ prophesies were made up later. We have over 25,000 copies of the new testement written before 1300 AD from all over the world, and the most they differ is around 3%. No major tenents or verses are in dispute. When you get in the car and drive to work each day, you have faith that you will not get in an accident based on prior experience and the best information you have. I have faith in the bible based on the experience of the things that it said would come true and did.

God reveiled Himself to me through reveiling His presence to me in a strong way when a couple of christians were praying, I could not stay in the same room as them, I knew something had happened just didn't know what. There was no way I was letting a bunch of christians brainwash me. After a while I realized Jesus only had my best interests at heart. To me it makes perfect sense now, yet I am still wary of others telling me what I need to do, most people while they want to help don't even know what they are doing.

I believe for every drop of rain that falls,
A flower grows,
I believe that somewhere in the darkest night,
A candle glows.
I believe for everyone who goes astray,
Someone will come to show the way.
I believe,
I believe.

I believe above the storm the smallest prayer,
Will still be heard.
I believe that someone in the great somewhere,
Hears every word.
Every time I hear a new born baby cry,
Or touch a leaf or see the sky.
Then I know why,
I believe.

Every time I hear a new born baby cry,
Or touch a leaf or see the sky.
Then I know why,
I believe.

The religion I was brought up in (Christianity) was slowly destroying my spirit. It actually made me less of a person in a good many ways. I was never a bad person -- obeyed and respected my parents, got decent grades, didn't swear, didn't get in trouble, didn't use drugs, etc. -- but Christianity told me I was and that I was going to hell.

At fifteen I had a nervous breakdown mostly because of my terrible fear -- phobia actually -- of going to hell.

In my early twenties I began looking for something that could help heal my soul.

Eventually, I did.

I'm still damaged from years of torment, but my spirit is finally at peace.

family plays a big role in this when ur younger , i was raised up to believe in one God , when i grew up i started knowing more , understanding more , i looked around in other beliefs & religions to make sure that i'm right to be what i am ,

culture & family makes ur first step which u may stick to it or leave it when u grow up if u discovered that there's another belief that provides more answers & more evidences to be the true one that u should follow

The truth and the way to know the truth are revealed in the Bible. The Bible says that those who seek the truth will find it. If one has value in the truth he Will seek it and through this he will receive a gift from God this gift is faith and through faith comes revelation. God is alive and well and available for everyone to know him personally

I would like to believe it's bec I arrived at my beliefs solely through my own logic. However, its probably a mixture of what my family instilled in me and what I came to on my own.
