This can be a somewhat messy situation in languages because most languages have both formal and informal ways of saying "Hello."

Some Examples:

French: Bon jour! (formal); Salut! (informal), Toutou! (informal)

Spanish: Buenos Dias! (formal), Saludos (formal); Hola! (informal)

German: Guten Tag! (formal); Hallo! (informal)

Irish Gaelic: Dia Dhuit (pronounced Jee-uh gwitch Lit. "God be with you.") (formal); Dia is Muire dhuit! (pronounced Jee-us mweer-uh gwitch Lit. "God and Mary be with you.") (formal;
Haigh! (informal) (Pronounced like English Hi!).

Two exceptions I know of are Hawaiian which uses just "Aloha!" and Cherokee which uses just "Osiyo!" (pronounced Oh-see-YOH!).

"Hola" or "¿Cómo esta usted?" if is a close friend "¿Qué pa'jo?"
Hello, How do you do? or What's up? These are tha translations for the last questions. The 2 official languages in my country, Puerto Rico, are Spanish (most used) and English.

I'm wondering why I was thumbed down, this's a question how do you say Hello in your country, so this's the way we say hello down here so you have no reason to thumb me down, whoever did it, this person wasn't asking for an advise or anything like that, but for the person who thumbed my down, if you know how to say "hello" in Spanish better than I, I want to read it.
