Why is the ketchup that comes in packets (like from fast food places) darker in color than the ketchup that comes in bottles?

i used to work in a mc donalds where ketchup packets are distributed regularly. after asking the same question a few times around what was my highchool i was eventually given this answer by a health inspector who visited my hot food production class.

it is darker in color because it is dyed to be that way to cover the apperance of chemical additives in the mixture. The additives are there because most packed condiments are not refrigerated. thusly without coupius ammounts of dye the dont look natural

I think the ketchup in the packet is oxidation faster then the ketchup in the bottle. That’s why look darker

interesting question...my guess is that perhaps since the ketchup in the packet doesn't see any light and doesn't get refrigerated and is in smaller portions its darker- It could also be made differently than bottled ketchup.
