flirt with the girls you like. then they will know that you are single. girls like funny guys. humor. humor. humor. at first though, after a few dates, you will have to come up with some new tricks to entertain them. but hopefully by then you will know what kind of guy she likes or if you like her or not. just be yourself. you don't want to pretend to be someone else for years... not fun.

What do girls see in a guy?, it depends of the age, teenagers like cute boys and everything good about them (like body, hair, etc)
older girls, say 23 above, they're more mature, they prefer loving, kind, romantic, nice guy to hang out with. They prefer HEART rather than APPEARANCE
